If a university student group had celebrated Charlie Kirk being killed, complete with a graphic made from an actual picture of the killing, the whole lot of them would have been expelled before the ink on the digital story was dry.

University of Illinois college republicans advocate for executing protesters as “traitors” with art that takes a disturbing killing and makes it even more extreme. dailyillini.com/news-stories...

This is a good one, well worth a read.

AMMONITE's tagline is Change or Die—more apt today than when I wrote it. It was my first novel. It's #25 on Esquire's Best SF of All Time. Why? You can find out without risking much: it's currently on sale for $1.99, all North American digital platforms.

I go to church and sing and this resonates with me. I’ve felt this at concerts too. I know that not everyone will go to religious ceremonies for lots of reasons. But they’re missing out on the congregational singing. I think Mr. Eno is right.

Brian Eno: singing is the key to a good life. “That’s one of the great feelings — to stop being me for a little while and to become us. That way lies empathy, the great social virtue.” [kottke.org]

What did I read in 2024? Not as much as I usually do. Distractions, work, TikTok, and my knee injury in February really took a toll. But I started picking back up in the last quarter. I love reading. It gives me something external to focus on. It is my only real hobby. 1/x

I decided not to post my ratings here. They are on my Goodreads page if you're interested (my profile is tayknight). No five-stars this year, but no 2-stars either. I also didn't have any abandoned books, which, to me, is good. 2/x

Voting for Waxahatchee's "Tiger's Blood" as my favorite album on #kexp top 2024 list. I've come back over and over. Title track and "Right Back to It" (and the video. Dang, the video). I had my injury in February and couldn't convince myself to see her in Ft. Worth in the spring. Still bummed.
