Used my adult money to celebrate my undying love of World of Warcraft with the child at the Royal Albert Hall. The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra and the London Symphony Chorus performed the f***ing divine music. I ugly cried at the end and now I’m so tired 🤣 (Yes, pics were allowed!)

In The Miso Soup is contender for my fav book of all time. I’ve re-read it so many times and it even came with an in built ribbon book mark. It’s taken nearly 30 years to get an audiobook version and has never been screen adapted. What an utter loss to genre fiction. Rest well, sir 🫡

We are sad to learn that Japanese writer Ryū Murakami has passed away at 74 years old. Murakami wrote the 1997 novel AUDITION which was adapted into Takashi Miike's horror masterpiece. He also wrote the novels Almost Transparent Blue and Coin Locker Babies. Rest in Peace.

Different decades, different themes, different budgets, and a portmanteau for good measure. But returning to my watchlist of random films only made me miss Hornblower and Sharpe. Not shown, It Ends (2025), somehow the most precious horror I’ve seen. Loved it. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

And so my Sharpe and Hornblower marathon ends. They were fabulous to revisit. Makes me want to say “they don’t make tv like that anymore” but I don’t need to feel any older! Time to return to my random-films-I’ve-found-on-YouTube-and-TPTV list while I plot my next marathon

Not ashamed to say I’ve spent all week trying to come up with puns around my Hornblower rewatch marathon. My brain only managed versions of having a “horny” week… which blows (sorrynotsorry) I open the floor to your wittiest Hornblower puns. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

This week was… The Sharpener. Unable to track down Sharpe’s Challenge or Peril on streaming, I’ve now completed my re-watch/swooning. Loved every moment. Except Jane… I do not… love… Jane… *hiss* Onwards to Hornblower and a world of potential puns. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

My favourite nerd triple threat continues: 1. Listen to podcast about a vintage film. 2. Watch the vintage film. 3. Acquired the vintage book. Bonus pic of the back of Four Sided Triangle because it’s truly glorious.

Appalled at myself! Two days into spooky season and I’ve only just remembered to make my handle seasonal. I feel like I’ve now righted a wrong. Tricksy or treaty? 👻 🦇 🧙‍♀️ 🧛‍♂️ 🧟‍♀️

Today begins my ultimate comfort rewatch marathon: all of Sharpe and all of Hornblower. “It’ll be bugles, battles, and bags of glory. Stick with me, Richard. I’ll see you right.” “You’ll see me dead, sir.” “That’s my boy!”

Lore (2023) was basically adult Are You Afraid Of The Dark? and I was so ok with that. The Ice Storm (1997) was utterly engrossing and very uncomfortable in places (deliberately so), but a wonderful plethora of baby-faced stars. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

William Castle got me hard with Homicidal (1961). Not with the twist, per se, but with Joan Marshall herself. Bloody hell, girl. Amazing. Having her take a bow for the audience at the end was so justified. Added a whole star just for her performance(s). #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

I’ve made another new friend. This time by the pond at work. I have named it Newtfriend, because I am highly original and witty. Please say hello to Newtfriend and enjoy imagining me crouched right down and looking like I’m taking close up pictures of the pavement. At work.

A 22 year old Oliver Reed distracted from learning his lines for the starring role in Hammer’s The Curse of the Werewolf, which began filming on this day in 1960 🖤

A surprise Karl Urban in Y2K peak vibes movie The Irrefutable Truth About Demons (2000) and a surprisingly involving thriller involving tennis with Islands (2025). The other two epitomise “mid”. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

Rather fitting that Kolchak achieves my 200th horror and 100th classic film of the year. Enjoyed The Night Strangler (1973) just as much as The Night Stalker (1972). Caught myself smiling ear to ear at one point. Time to buy the series, methinks.

Last four not showing some of the actually good films I watched this week such as The Yellow Sea (2010), which had some of the best car chases I’ve ever seen. Instead, I present mostly mid-tier horror. Happy Friday! #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

Finally watching Madhouse (1974). 90mins of Vincent Price parodying himself, a sprinkling of Peter Cushing, madcap deaths that rival Dr Phibes, a barmy spider lady, and Michael Parkinson. Cloaks, candelabra, soliloquising, and everything on fire. Joy! Plus I feel smart because I figured it out 🤣

Kiss Of The Vampire (1963) took the decadence of Hammer gothic and really did something different. The idea of vampires almost being frightened cult members who gaslight families of new members/victims, rather than just killing them, was refreshingly subversive. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

Presence (2024) was such a wonderful classic ghost story and being pov of the ghost was fab. Can understand why it wasn’t for everyone, but a shame it didn’t get talked about more. Also had no idea it’s a Steven Soderbergh, so that was a nice surprise. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday

Another lovely colour scheme for the last four. But also a great mix of blockbuster, indie, and classic. No need to recommend The Odyssey (2026) so I’ll recommend Loner (2025); a British folk horror that really lingers and brings new meaning to a bag for life. #LastFourWatched #LetterboxdFriday
