Brighton-ish to Hull and back in a day tomorrow. Doing a couple of job interviews and they're better done in person. My kindle is charging for the 10 hours I shall be on a train.

A sudden flurry of gigs and things incoming again! I interrupt my journey home from Hull tonight to see Arab Strap, then Duke Special on Sunday, Belle and Sebastian playing 'Sinister' and Izzard doing Hamlet, both at the De La Warr in December. Exciting!

I did my training to be a mainframe programmer and analyst in Cardiff, back in 1998. A lifetime ago. I remember checking into my hotel behind David Essex.

Finished octordle extreme with two guesses left, got a paye refund from paying too much tax last year and off to Cardiff to see Heaven17 tonight. Today has started well 🙂

The last team I managed used to call me Ted Lasso. I hadn't seen the show at the time. I have now. I'll take that as a win. And I can see why they called me the name - I try to be gentle, patient, supportive and on a good day, insightful. I'm actually kind of touched.

A colleague is buying my lease car as it comes off lease, which means I have to drive to bloody Hull from Brighton a week on Monday. Someone has taken a big loss on the lease - I pad £230 a month to lease a car that was £38k new and he is buying for £14k at 3 years old and 6000 miles.

I will not replace it immediately - though new Citroen e2cv might change my mind. 6000 miles in 2 years means I clearly don't need it and I use my bike to nip into town generally. As I said to Becky, I can use that £230 monthly for dancing girls, champagne and cocaine.

Becky is away with her friends tonight so I am abandoning my Simba mattress for a campbed in child 2's temporary room so we can chat and catch up on general life stuff. Hoping to hear about planning permission to convert the garage for him shortly.

Also listening to this which made a wonderful appearance in the last few minutes of the latest episode of Slow Horses. It gave me goosebumps. Like an edgier Hurts.

Out for dinner with Team Barnes on what would have been Maria's birthday. And is Phil Oakey's. They've all done so well and come so far. I am full of pride for them.

Never join a Friday catch up call late with the jovial, Friday afternoon type phrase 'what's up bitches?' before checking to see if only your female colleagues have joined.

Just made dough for naan breads so that it has time to prove for later and then joined a zoom call looking like a particularly careless drug dealer. Presumably it's a real no-no in the drug dealing world to wear a black jumper while flinging white powder around the kitchen.

We were invited to a Halloween fancy dress party that was then cancelled not sure what I will do now with my fake pearl necklace, kitten heels, long red gloves and green dress. Handy for job interviews I suppose.

Chikd1 has unexpectedly decided to start buying VHS cassettes off ebay so I have dug out my vcr from the back of a cupboard. Fortunately his telly is old enough to have a scart socket.

Becky had a broken dualit toaster in the garage. I have spent the morning replacing all the elements (£45 from Dualit) and it now works perfectly. She thinks I am a magician/genius. And now we have a working fancy toaster.

Becky has 4 of her old school friends over. I have retired to the bedroom to read so that they can cackle and talk about whatever it is they talk about. All is good in the world. I can hear the occasional shriek.
