Riker as the best pilot on the ship, but never at the helm, irks me. You got this Mr. Crusher. Precision navigation needed, *handwaving traveler something*. Best scientist on Voyager - Janeway. We can't figure it out captain! Sigh, bring me the padd and some coffee.
star trek is fantasy because all the leadership people are more technically skilled than their direct reports

GOOD! How do I have to clean AND pay an exorbitant cleaning fee. And hosting on Airbnb is entirely optional. Parasite economy.

after this, google just started sabotaging their own original results showing the investigations from independant press around those searches and is now showing a dummy statement telling people to ""look for official sources"" we're basically at war against the whole american big tech now

Exactly. I draft articles in Google Docs where the collaboration tools actually work, but to submit I have to switch to Word. Preview (on Mac) handles 98% on my PDF needs, but then there's some nonsense that "requires" Acrobat.
As someone else in the thread noted, other versions of software can and often do get you 98% of the way there, in terms of features/interoperability, but it turns out that remaining 2% is often mission critical, and that's where Adobe/Microsoft, etc get you if you are a working professional.
I worked at Denny's for 3 days. Trained Day 1. Day 2, I was scheduled until 8. I went to leave and they said no, we take you off the floor at 8, then you have your side work. I said no, that's work, my work ends at 8. I stayed that day, but said I wouldn't again. They tried the same Day 3, ✌🏾 I'm out
As said later in the thread, "Blind people deserve help without heroics or inspiration. Full stop."
I expressed - as a blind person - the wish that people who volunteer on the be my eyes app not talk about how “wholesome” their interactions with users are. About how the interaction made THEM feel. They are upset that I a blind person maybe don’t use the app because of violations of privacy.

DC folks, if you film an arrest, especially one involving federal agents or National Guard, please make a report to Film the Police DC. @harrietsdreams.bsky.social and @dcmigrantmutualaid.org can then take action to help arrestees #WeKeepUsSafe www.filmthepolicedc.org

How I Met Your Mother went past its sweet spot. Supernatural as well. If I were creating a new series, I'd plan 3-5 seasons. I'd rather have 5 solid than 8 with the last 2-3 shaky with a hurried ending.
What TV show got so bad it effectively destroyed your appreciation for the show when it was was good?
Why? The gov refuses to pay for it, industries lobbying against it, and the country is big, with major cities far apart, making flying attractive. That said, too much lobbying in the US government and reliable public transit is a public good.

Rome, after you've seen the sites and taken the tours. Before that, it's wonderful. Picture taking, history making. After that though, when you're trying to catch the bus or get around the city, nah. If a friend wanted to visit and hit the tourist spots, sure, if I couldn't convince them of Venice
