When your company institutes its return to office policy and they say they polled people and it turns out they only talked to 3 out of 300 people, yep, that's bad. But when you have 175+ million registered voters, polling 1% of them is actually pretty great work.

Mike Johnson: "When I'm in these big arenas, I ask for hands -- 'Show me your hand if you've answered a poll in the last six months.' There will be like three hands among 300 people. I'm telling you, these polls are off. All of them."

People often point out not wanting to "choose the lesser of two evils" as a reason for not voting. But that's the job. You vote for the lesser AND THEN KEEP PRESSURING THEM TO BE BETTER. Voting for someone isn't total acquiescence to them. It's just saying "I admit you are the best choice I had".

Ultimately, that's the largest problem of the Right. They vote a guy in and then take the position that that guy is right, always, because he won. (But only when it's their guy.) They don't push back. They roll over. And that path has lead to worse and worse candidates.

Why would they try to be better when all they need to do is win and their team will fall in line behind them?

And then when they take office you hold their feet to the fire and keep asking them, every day, to be better. And every election you keep choosing the best available option, and you keep pushing. You keep calling out when they've done wrong.

I know some people really like their clicky keyboards, but we need to invent ones that are outwardly silent but will play the clicks in the headphones of the people who want them. It's so goddamn distracting.

Anyone on this app doing the awful duty of watching Trump TV and reporting on it? I want to know what garbage it's showing, but not enough to watch it directly and give them traffic.

When you see skeletons of things that don't have skeletons I like to think that it is a spirit trying to make a corporeal form out of bits of bone it steals from other sources.

It's like they got all these scripts for blaming everything on Biden since he was clearly going to win in 2024, but that didn't happen and they didn't update the scripts, so even people holding offices they would not hold if Biden had won are still blaming everything on Biden.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: Are you concerned about global vulnerabilities because of continued operations in Iran and munitions drawdowns? JD VANCE: We certainly saw under the Biden administration ...

Either that, or they really think their voting base is that stupid, and their voting base is determined to be exactly that stupid, and this is the worst goddamn fucking timeline. Shit. Pass the Tylenol.

So, it’s not a conspiracy, and you are not imagining it. The biggest and wealthiest tech leaders are genuine fascists. They are leading an active and intentional systematic attack on labor. And they have radicalized each other while sidelining or removing the remaining decent execs in the industry.

Food companies wanted deregulation. Now there are dozens of recalls across the country. Mining companies wanted deregulation. Now the black lung rate is at a 45-year high. Financial companies wanted deregulation. Now financial losses to fraud are the highest on record. Noticing a pattern?

When I was a child, every now and then my family would have a special dinner: srevotfel. It was always delicious and never the same. It wasn't until I was older that I realized it was just "leftovers" backwards and my mother was crafting a meal out of whatever remained of previous meals.

Took this today with my phone from the deck of a cruise ship in the middle of the ocean. I've seen three or four solar eclipses in my life, but this is by far the clearest and best I've ever seen. A singular experience I'll likely never repeat.

Went to Monet's house, listened to Vincent by Don McLean. I think I did that wrong.

Max Miller released audio recordings of conversations he has with his ex wife. In one of them, she accuses him of clandestinely recording their conversations. “I have never recorded our conversations” he says, while recording their conversation. This is domestic violence. Ask me how I know.

It isn't an album by *a* band, but I may have listened to this CD, without skipping tracks, more than any other of the period.

I mean, frankly, pretty much every country should be denying visas to our officials since this administration hasn't shown respect to very many nations. At least deny all underlings and only let the top guys in. Rubio, yes, but no one else from State unless he's with them.

He kept comparing it to Vietnam, and unfortunately he's likely to be right. We may not be able to end the war in Iran until a new president is elected. And even then they'll be fighting a whole lot of sunk cost fallacy after 3 years of conflict.

"This is what a quagmire looks like”: Trump enters bleak new phase with Iran The weekend deaths of three U.S. service members have left White House allies afraid the president is rapidly running out of ways to extricate the country from an unpopular, expensive conflict.

I don't think he has ever been to an Olive Garden.

Scalise: "For God's sake -- you can't get pasta at Olive Garden without a picture ID! Why not be able to show a picture ID to vote?"

Call out the hypocrisy for your own sake, not for them. They'll never feel shame about it because having two standards, one for themselves and one for everyone else, is exactly their goal.

You either break up the monopolies so that real competition can exist to equalize the market, or you accept that it has to be a monopoly, nationalize it, and remove shareholders and profit to keep prices down.

When it comes out that Mitch was dead the entire time, I would like it if every person who lied about it to prevent a special election to be charged with some form of election tampering/fraud. Because that's what it is. It'll have to come from the state though. Trump's DOJ won't lift a finger.

Any restaurant that serves ICE agents deserves to have no other customers. Hotels that let ICE agents stay deserve to have no other occupants. Being an ICE agent should be disqualifying for participating in polite society, and those that cater to them should reap no rewards.

Today is actually the perfect day to challenge your Trump supporting family members at the cookout about their support of fascism in America. Happy 4th of July!

There's this great scene in The Rocketeer where the Feds and the Mob are standing side by side fighting the Nazis. They look at each other, then go back to fighting Nazis. Reading folks say that Dems need to fight the DSA makes me think of that scene, and sad. Dems should focus on fighting Nazis.

I will never disparage a religious person who wants to help people because of their calling. But we have a lot of folks who want to make things so miserable that you are forced to come crawling to their religion for aid. Those people I fucking hate.

A woman at Trump's Great American State Fair had to cool off in the baptism pool due to extreme heat: None of these booths have air conditioning. I was seeing stars. We went to the religious tent, and they had a pool. They're baptizing people. They said, 'Do you want to get in?' I go, 'Yes, I do.'
