Access to traditional food/flavours from around the world. I enjoy Himalayan, provincial Korean, Cantonese, Nigerian, Cree, Punjabi, Afghani, Finnish, Serbian, Yemeni and rural Japanese dishes at restaurants within 5 km of my house—and it has forever altered my (and my friends’) cooking. 💙

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Car machismo is so illogical. Bro taps a pedal with a shoe in a/c glass bubble—and that makes him man enough to kill a cyclist. Meanwhile my wife commutes in -25C with just a slick set of goggles, some knitted mitts, 3 layers and a half jug of coffee in her veins. Who’s tougher to you? 🤷🏾‍♂️

We’ve been talking about this for years. None of these far-right movements are organic.

Amazing. 🚲💙

Because to certain people with power, equality and equity feels like a type of murder. It isn’t. We have had to keep saying this for HUNDREDS OF YEARS. We’re tired.

For a certain kind of white man, there is no fear more primal than the fear that the people they have abused will gain power and treat them the same way.

Cyclists were the primary force behind organized political pressure for better, paved roads before the arrival of cars and drivers. Drivers now think they own the road and oppose safe infrastructure for all other road users. What if tanks started using roads and were crushing cars and people?

It’s almost like companies expect the public to not know what ‘unsecured’ means. “Hey public, we need to regulate the stuff we’re borrowing billions to make” (while we leave all your back doors open. 🙃🙃 Also, if you give any shits about technology in 🇨🇦 betakit is tops. 👊🏾🧔🏾‍♂️

Kinda wild that we’re shuffling evermore quickly back to the climate era that created the layers of algae & plant material we burn evermore rapidly today. 🤷🏾‍♂️

There's no way anyone will ever grow seaweed for carbon dioxide removal.

I wonder how quickly the province of Alberta will remove its provincial fish once it goes from endangered to extinct (or extirpated). 🤷🏾‍♂️ This province is the home of own goals. There is no greater enemy of Alberta than its own hubris. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

More than 2 First Nations in 🇨🇦 burned to ash this year 🇨🇦 is about to announce a new pipeline to the west coast Modern liberalism hasn’t changed since the Enlightenment. The same colonial praxis that wiped millions of indigenous people lives on but climate change comes for us all. Eventually 😔

Hot take: The ENTIRE political internet is insincere. It’s paid ‘at best’ (the right), or ‘aspiring to NOT BE broke’ at worst (the left). 💰 The sooner the world recognizes this, the quieter OUR WORLD will become. 🌍

At some point Canadians are going to realize that the national parks they cherish (one that I am on a board for) are not as much pristine wilderness to conserve as they are sacred lands taken by the force of a colonial federation. Probably not in my generation… 🙃 www.newsweek.com/canada-natio...

newsweek.comCanada national parks created using "colonial injustices"—government reportA Parks Canada report says its national parks were created through colonial policies that displaced and excluded Indigenous peoples.

I just read the Canadian government’s AI strategy. Working in a tech-adjacent industry, I now have more reasons to be worried. 850 MW of “private-public” 💴 data centres in 4 years And 🇨🇦 needs 5.5 GW, for it… equivalent to a new city of a million people. No mention of water, heat or environment.

Sorry to hear about Jeff Bezos's rocket exploding prematurely. A good technique to prevent that from happening is to try thinking about something you find totally unarousing or even repulsive, like giving workers a living wage or paying a fair share of taxes.

Dear app developers, I have never had the desire to review an app. Prompting me to leave a review doe not make me want to do it any more. Making me click multiple times to dismiss your "nudge" and get back to using the app just makes me want to uninstall it. Sincerely, Every smartphone user ever

I sat through 3 oil and gas experts’ chats & watched them lie to 🇨🇦 We are NOT the only country with a price on carbon. There are 6 others like 🇳🇴 🇬🇧 🇩🇰 🇫🇷 for example. When your touted customers/Asia shifts carbon levies to oil & gas (as soon as 2027) you sure as 💩 better be ready. + stop lying.

An old friend I met for a bike ride this morning said I should try climbing because “Climbing is golf for fun people.” This is living rent free in my head. 😆 IS THIS TRUE?!?!

10,000 PERCENT. Plus differently-abled people who deserve the dignity to be outside and get around as freely as the rest of us. 💙

“I’m an avid cyclist but.....” Exactly the problem. We don’t need infrastructure just for avid cyclists, we need it for those new and/or apprehensive riders who are terrified of riding through their cities

40-ish km morning #bike ride with the missus for my birthday. Didn’t get any photos but managed to mess up my bottom bracket pretty good so it time to unpack and repack that sucker. 🙃 ☺️ Photo is of previous ride, but was just as much fun!

What is big, brownish-gray, has been alive since the time of dinosaurs, lives underwater and kind of looks like it has a fancy moustache? If you guessed lake sturgeon you were correct — and we're impressed with your fish knowledge.

I find the recent poll and "research" from MEI mind blowing... This is the think tank that our Premier and govt is being "advised" by, and polls like these are designed and released simply to support a narrative.🧵 1/13
