“Socrates: I'm afraid that it might actually be sacrilegious to stand idly by while morality is being denigrated and not try to assist as long as one has breath in one's body and a voice to protest with.” ― Plato, The Republic Wise words by Socrates as recorded by Plato in The Republic.

It's fantastic seeing LGBTQIA+ community in libraries and engaging in literature and books... But maybe think a bit more carefully about your poster design. If you said "The L stands for literature" would Lesbians be happy being replaced? I am, in fact, not a book. I'm a person with human rights.

Classic British Handyman: Mate, the last person you had here has absolutely stitched you up, shocking work, honestly such a bloody cowboy! I've half a mind to report him to the landlord. *Checks work order on tablet* Right let's just get this sorted. Spoiler: It was him.

Facebook post: Nice and lovely post about a Muslim Hiking Group Facebook user: THEYRE ALL TERRORISTS CHECK THEIR BAGS BECAUSE THEYRE GOING TO BLOW THEMSELVES UP! *Reports* Facebook: That doesn't go against our community guidelines, comment not removed. Gee, thanks Facebook!

A comparison between a heavily botted Facebook post and a Facebook post with no / less bot engagement. Typically bots will leave comments over reactions to posts. You can see how the first botted post has more comments than reactions, and the second has 5-6 times more reactions.

I was careful to pick two posts which are likely to generate strong emotions because I've had the criticism "People are more likely to comment if they're angry!" when bringing this up before.

You still cant collapse comment threads, making it impossible to gain engagement in the comment sections of a post if even a single comment has a lot of replies since you have to endlessly scroll past every reply to see the next comment. This is BASIC FUNCTIONALITY that you still wont add. wtf?

v1.135 is live! You can now browse quote posts by Top in addition to Latest. And posts keep their thread numbering when quoted. These changes are rolling out now. If you don’t see them yet, try refreshing your browser or visiting the app store to make sure you’ve updated to the latest version.

If Bluesky doesn't want people leaving comments on posts and just wants everyone quote posting posts in order to add their own opinions, just get rid of commenting completely, because it's next to fucking useless if you CANNOT COLLAPSE A COMMENT AND ITS REPLIES.

There are lots of things when I was younger that made me realise I was weird. One of them was being the subject of almost daily sexual harassment starting from the age of around 11 as I grew my hair long. It ended up growing as long as my waist. Even in school uniform men would catcall me.

QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?

I ran behind the counter, through the door, into the shop owners personal living area and through his yard and out into the alley and away, whilst he stopped the men following me. I feared for my life, all because I liked my long hair, and kept a hat on and hair tucked into my coat after.

So that was one of the earlier times I remember feeling weird, because as a male I could never imagine sexually harassing someone, or trying to kill them. My parents told me I should cut my hair if I was so scared. As if it was my fault. Not theirs. As if I was not the victim.

Men would demand I expose my body to them, thinking I was female. One time when 3 adults following me told me to expose myself to them, I turned and told them I was a boy. They screamed slurs at me, said they'd kill me, and chased me. I had to escape by running through a shop

I was hoping BlueSky was better than Twitter / X. But almost every comment I've seen on this on BlueSky are people laughing and cheering at the fact a man with severe learning disabilities (he was using makaton) has died in a brutal way. All social media sucks. www.aljazeera.com/news/2026/10...

aljazeera.comMan dies after entering tiger enclosure at England wildlife parkEmergency services called to the scene after reports of a man entering the tiger enclosure at a UK wildlife park.

What step is wishing for children to drown in the English Channel? What step is attacking the RNLI? What step is a party leader cackling at a lone woman being mob assaulted in the middle of a political rally? How many steps away are we from the death camps?

Every year newspapers report "In the UK there is a £300 fine for picking blackberries" because a years ago a rag interviewed a lawyer who said you can be fined £300 if, whilst foraging, you trespass on private land and refuse to leave when instructed to do so. This is why you never trust headlines.

It does tempt me, however, to make my own newspaper but take these misleading headlines further. "LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR PICKING BLACKBERRIES IN THE UK" "if you murder multiple people to reach the bramble bush."

Now more than ever we are hearing language such as "invaders" and "fighting age men". It makes me think of this quote from Cebo Campbell's Sky Full of Elephants. “Make them angry, make them feel invaded, for doing nothing at all but breathing the same air through a different-looking nose.”

Microsoft actually using common sense. I'm shocked! Now if I can see Steam do the same thing (So I can laugh at the ridiculous adult games store pages) that would be nice.

So I went to the park to watch the eclipse through a pinhole projector I made and as I looked around I could see the park was so busy, hundreds of people were out, people were saying hi to each other and it was amazing. I felt this strange warm feeling. A dog was pissing on my leg.

Always check the sources, and look out for red flags. On here I saw figures which made no sense, AI content, Comments disabled on post. So I went to the Source, More In Common, downloaded the results of the latest poll and made my own chart using the raw data. It tells a much different story.

I've always said i would welcome Labour when they do the right thing, and today's business relief for venues and pubs is a welcome respite for an industry at the heart of our communities.

Privilege just means ‘private law.’ That’s exactly what it means. He just doesn’t believe the ordinary laws apply to him. He really believes they can’t touch him, and that if they do he can just shout until they go away. - Terry Pratchett, The Truth

5 black/Muslim people injured by a white person wielding 2 knives yesterday. How would the front page have looked if it was 5 white people injured by a Muslim? Because this is how the front page of the BBC looks this morning. You can't tell anything happened.

I think there's great value in the Greens running against Andy Burnham and running a really clean campaign where they don't slander at all and if Andy Burnham win give him a sincere congratulations. Show that there is a place for compassion and cooperation in politics and Greens are that place.

“But we were dragons. We were supposed to be cruel, cunning, heartless and terrible. But this much I can tell you, we never burned and tortured and ripped one another apart and called it morality.” ― Terry Pratchett, Guards! Guards!

I reported someone for straight up calling Nursery Age Children and Nursery staff "N***ers" in a comment on a Department for Education post on Facebook. Apparently blatant hate crimes are no longer against Facebook community standards. That comment had been there for 7 weeks and had 10 likes, too.

Media rhetoric effects teachers too. I am a TA and was supporting a lesson in which a teacher said "San Francisco is a coastal city. A negative issue of this is that it attracts immigrants." Completely ignoring the cultural, ethical and economic benefit of immigrants both historically and currently.

“Anyone is capable of making a positive contribution to the world through simple observation, irrespective of circumstance." ... "‘We were born in order to see and listen to the world.’ It’s a powerful notion, with the potential to subtly reshape our view of everything.” ― Sweet Bean Paste

Today on my little adventures I spotted a friend. I try not to intervene in nature but it was crawling around on and near a footpath with a lot of foot traffic, dogs and bicycles that travel over it, so I moved it a little bit off into the undergrowth. #TouchGrass

On my walk today I spotted a great many things. The birds were too flighty to photograph, the rabbits too hoppy, and the thousands of baby fish too glittery. This mushroom, possibly an Agaricus Augustus (Prince), was more than happy to pose for me, though. #TouchGrass

In 1984 lesbians and gays joined miners striking when the government sequestered union funding. The trade unions have not forgotten the support received from a community that seemed a world apart from the miners, and since then trade unions march in solidarity in pride protests (Today In Darlington)

Was followed all the way through the field by these mischievous boys. Can't say I'm still not intimidated by them even though I know bullocks are the least dangerous cattle since they're not territorial like bulls or protective and hormonal like cows, they're still pretty big! #TouchGrass

This is a sleeper bridge, so-called because they use reclaimed rail line wooden sleepers from disused tracks. If you have a history of rail travel in your area, you may find these sleeper bridges when you #TouchGrass

Fun fact, when you search "Sleeper Bridges" on Google images, this image shows up on a website. This is a photo I took myself and posted on Squabblr (Before it went horribly bad). I was not given any credit for my photo being put on this other site.
