Gang…. did the keyboard safe area tracking for text fields get better?! All I did was recompile with Xcode 26 beta 3 and it looks so much smoother. I'm not imagining this, right?! #swiftui #ios

This is your annual reminder that if you feel the need demonstrate your patriotism with with illegal explosions in the sky, thereby scaring the shit out of every pet, baby, and wild animal in a 10 mile radius, you're kind of a shitty person and you should re-evaluate your life choices.

Adding some common RNG needs to One Is Not None. Tried to keep them just one tap away. Also added some icons to the list items in this screen for visual pop and glanceability. #MagicTheGathering #mtg #edh #swift #ios #swiftui

After a bit of a break from development, I'm back at it with a little improvement I've wanted from the beginning: counter icons! I even have a little Easter egg for the speed icon. It goes up with the counters 😁 #MagicTheGathering #edh #mtg #ios #swift #swiftui

Took a little break but I'm back at it working on building my #MagicTheGathering search tool for iOS. This time I've made it so that the syntax tree isn't strictly binary. Each "All of" or "Any of" query can have many children! #mtg #edh #swift #ios #swiftui

It makes sense that #Marvel, the most powerful and influential IP that Wizards has worked with so far, would exert this influence in the digital card game space given that they have Marvel Snap as a direct competitor to #MagicTheGathering Arena. (1/4)

However, this treatment will have lots of players wishing for tabletop versions of the Universes Within variants of Spider-man cards. I doubt we'll get them since the market has proven that Universes Beyond sell better than Universes within. (3/4)

If we don't get them, I can't help but feel this is just another step in eroding the love that old school magic players have for the game. "We put in the effort to create versions of these Magic cards that our old school fan base will love, but we refuse to give it to them." (4/4)

I also believe that Magic players will have no problem understanding that there are two mechanically identical but differently named cards. We've had these as far back as the Godzilla cards in Ikoria. (2/4)

Ever find yourself building a parser and trying to come up with a bunch of rules that your search space should follow? That's me and my search space is #MagicTheGathering cards. me: "surely there aren't any names with quotes in them. magic: "don't call me shirley" #ios #mtg

Here's a first step toward a UI for boolean search expressions for Magic cards. Baby steps y'all. #MagicTheGathering #mtg #edh #swift #ios #swiftui

As for what I'm using swift-case-paths for? Well I'm noodling on a new project that has some deeply nested enums. I'm making views for those enums and this helps. A lot. You can kind of see what I'm talking about in this video. #swift #ios #swiftui

To those following along, my developer account has been unlocked! This means I have submitted the fix for the giant bug to app review. As soon as they're done reviewing it, I'll release the update. Thanks everyone for bearing with me.

For anyone who downloaded One Is Not None: #Apple changed how simultaneous gestures work in iOS 18.4 which fundamentally broke my app. I have a fix, but for about a week now, Apple has also locked me out of my developer account and has not told me why. So I can't push the fix. Boosts appreciated.

About 3 hours ago, someone made the very first purchase of my app, One Is Not None. It's a surreal feeling; I am humbled that someone would be willing to pay for software that I wrote.

And then someone went and _paid_ me for that work. After Apple and Uncle Sam take their cuts, I'm walking away with about two bucks per sale, but I am prouder to have earned these two bucks than any other sum I've ever earned.

I hope this is the first step of many, and if you're at all interested in indie iOS development or Magic: the Gathering, I hope you'll follow along this wild ride.

I've been a software developer professionally for some time, but this is different. I'm proud of what I build at my day job, but in the same way that a proofreader might be proud of the work they did on the eighth chapter of a book. It's cool to be part of it, but that's all it ever is.

With One Is Not None, it's my brainchild. From the bottom to the top it's me. It's my aesthetic. It's my features. It's my bugs. You bet your ass I got a lot of help and support but at the end of the day the only person who really pushed this across the finish line was me.

Preorders for my #MagicTheGathering life counter, One Is Not None, are live! Releases Monday, April 7. apps.apple.com/us/app/one-i... After a six week beta where over a thousand games have been tracked using my app, I'm really excited to share it with the world. #mtg #edh #swift #ios #swiftui

Well ain't this a spooky feeling. First time ever. Bracing myself for my first rejection 😅 I'm assuming it's some sort of rite of passage. #swift #ios #swiftui #appreview

@aliasv.bsky.social Hi Eili! I was wondering if you or anyone in your circles would be interested in testing a new life counter iOS app for Magic? Happy to DM over a link to join the beta! I threw together a blog post talking about why I built the app: www.thehonkingsmith.com/blog/announc...

thehonkingsmith.comAnnouncing: One Is Not None — The Honking SmithOne Is Not None is a life counter for tabletop Magic: the Gathering games and it aims to be the best app of it’s kind.

My latest little detail while working on One Is Not None: a little shadow showing where there is more content to scroll. Not mission critical, but it helps users create a mental model of the app. #MagicTheGathering #mtg #edh #swift #ios #swiftui

Also going out in the next beta update are paywalls. I've decided on a one-time purchase for this app. All the features you would need to track a 4-player game of commander are now and will remain free, but alternate player counts and customizations will be behind the paywall.

I decided on a one-time purchase for a few reasons: 1. There are no server costs or third-party dependencies for this app. It's just code running on device. 2. It's my first indie app, so I'll only get better from here. Do these make sense? What would you pay for quality life counter for #MTG?

Also, I made a mistake when I shipped the initial version of the database and the fix for it can cause problems. This is why we have beta periods 😅 Because of my mistake, there might be a crash on launch this one time. Delete the app and reinstall from TestFlight to fix it. My bad ❤️

Been busy on One Is Not None for the last few days. I've been adding QoL improvements and customization options, but the highlight feature is that you can now see secondary counters on the main view! I'm gonna replace those text labels with icons. #MagicTheGathering #mtg #edh #swift #ios #swiftui

I've been working on a new life counter iOS app for #MagicTheGathering called One Is Not None! I've been looking for someplace to share progress; maybe that's here? Today's accomplishment: syncing commander damage taken with life totals. #mtg #edh #swift #ios #swiftui

You are up to date.
