Please make this for paper as well. I love the witinn verisions that have been made before. They're some of my favourite cards and I love the reimagining that you guys do for the in universe verisions. Please do this for us paper players too ❤️

Everyone asking “why not do this in paper” lmfao it’s because they want you to only be able to buy the expensive UB cards. If you had the choice and the Universes Within sold higher than the marvel cards Wizards would lose so much money lmfao

There will be $95 Secret Lair drops for four select reskins of spidermen that you’ve already pulled on Arena for free. If you pay $155 for the foil version you also get a complimentary Siege Rhino with Paul Giamatti art.

it really, really sucks that players have been asking for universe within versions of UB since the beginning, you promised to do it for at least secret lairs, did it for about 30 cards then stopped, and now are doing all the creative work for some of them and just not printing it

Oh, neat, I won't even have to think of how to proxy cards from universes I don't understand but like the rules of, I'll have ready made ones to just adapt to paper

I've been slightly positive regarding UBs until now. But I'm guess people who mostly play limited and do it 50/50 in paper/online isn't who you're doing this for and we'll just have to eat it. Will see if this is just annoying or if I'll hate it 🤷

Glad you're doing what everyone wants but in an incoherent, weird way. Why not do a Through the Omenpaths set for EVERY Universes Beyond? Why not do them in paper?

‪@magic.wizards.com‬ Could you consider naming the Through the Omenpaths cards in a way that helps us remembering what is what? Something like same starting letters, so "Venom, Deadly Devourer" -> "Vraska, Death Dealer" (or whatever makes better flavor sense). It'd help a lot!

Even just doing that for only the cards you expect to see constructed play would help. I get that I'm probably way too late in asking for this. So I'm really hoping you've thought of something like that already, as players won't want to memorize collector's numbers.

WOTC and Hasbro have consistently said they are embracing generative AI, up until now they've only used it in marketing stuff, but having to create an entire new sets worth of art for digital only cards seems like it would be a prime opportunity to introduce it into an actual product line.

I would argue heavily for Through the Omenpaths to be in-paper too. There are some UB cards that mechanically are pretty fun and I’d like to play with, but the aesthetic departure for many leads me to exclude them from decks. More in-universe treatments will make me want them in decks more.

Given I’d rather take a power tool to my abdomen than play with Marvel cards, this is 50% a good thing. Now if we can just do the same to the paper product too, Standard will be considerably better. Same goes for all UB stuff. Fine in Commander and Secret Layers. Gross in Standard.

Ah yes, the universes within that we were told we weren't getting, but only for digital! This is probably very good and the company is definitely not a shitty mess for trying to pretend to be a toy company instead of a living game.

They've said that if and when the cards are reprinted, the reprints will be the in-universe version. The bar to reprint them will likely be lower because the creative work for the in-universe version is already done.

This is awful and will be immensely confusing and damaging to coverage. Most people practice a lot digitally and then play paper tournaments, having to learn new names and arts for every card they draft???? This is why UB is just bad, you’re creating new problems trying to make a problem work

it would be great if there was a paper release for the universes within versions of these sets. and then without the licensing fees they wouldn't have to cost so much. it would be great. just like...a normal magic set.

But with the sheer scale of UB (three standard sets per year), I don't think you actually want that. Can you recognize/name all the LOTR cards that are run in the formats you play? What if they each had an additional name to recognize? It's Orcish Bowmasters *and* it's "Brutal Marksmen".

It's Warhammer's Reaver Titan *and* "Urza's Battlewagon" It's that, times 300, three times per year. 900 new names and cards. You recognize Mirkwood Bats, but will you actually clock Strixhaven Starlings when it's on the board?

As much as I like the idea of these in paper, I can understand why printing two mechanically identical but flavour swapped sets would be cost prohibitive. That said, having digital universes within versions means a higher chance of future paper reprints for appropriate cards, so I'll take that win.

Does the data show that UB is worth this hassle? You might push some product but are people actually continuing to play the game? I didn't see a real UB card in any game that I played at #mcchicago. Everyone was using proxies because the sets are so inaccessible. Hope all this bullshit is worth it.

Imagine the budget required to print two parallel versions of the same set. The inventory headaches for your LGS trying to figure out how much of each to stock. Logistical nightmare! This is a workaround because they couldn't get the digital rights to the IP. But hey, if it's successful, who knows?

I get it, and I recognize the logistical problems inherent with printing the parallel set. It's just frustrating that the fact that they couldn't get the digital rights is what pushed them to do it rather than players vocally complaining about UB.

Just don’t buy them. I also have just stopped engaging with these type of products. Stop giving them your money, if enough people do the same it will actually reach them more then any post ever will.

That's because players, as a whole, AREN'T vocally complaining about UB. Feedback on Universes Beyond has been overwhelmingly positive. Most people are either excited about it if they're fans of the IP or neutral about it if they're not.

legitimately? it's to circumvent the limited licensing arrangements provided for UB cards. this allows them to be available to craft outside the initial window of availability (ex Godzilla buy-a-box promo) also, Disney probably doesn't want to allow digital publishing of IP by non-Disney-led teams

The fact that this magnitude of dev recources can be thrown at this problem at the drop of a hat just reminds me that Pioneer and even Modern could have been put into Arena years ago. Such a waste of time an effort, why not focus on giving us a better online experience instead? UB is a joke.

Love how people are completely missing the reason behind this: certain IP holders not wanting to license their IP for a digital product, and WOTC wanting to still digitally commercialize that product somehow. Totally unrelated to your call for printing paper universes-within versions of UB cards. 😂🙄

I assume it's not that they don't want to do digital licensing, but Marvel has a history of only offering limited timed licenses for games, and this doesn't sit well with WotC/Hasbro. Many popular Marvel games have just ended abruptly when it's license renewal time.

This couldn’ta been last-minute decision, why not announce this at the outset? Surely it took time to get the art asset waves done, otherwise are we reverting to the early Alchemy sets of borderline WIP-quality art to cover a full set? Either way, I’m ecstatic and relieved to have MTG sets in MTG.
