The internet’s only Voyager fan. Not sure if I’m a leftist because of Star Trek or a Star Trek fan because I’m a leftist.

RIP Walter Koenig. He had my favorite line in the legendary Futurama Star Trek episode.
My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.
Important to remember the man he's standing next to started his political career calling Obama's citizenship into question over birth certificates. That goal post has been moved such that a certificate won't protect you. They will redraw the lines until everyone they hate is excluded.
Rally speaker: "Mike Rogers is an American. Abdul has a birth certificate. The birth certificate says he's a citizen of America. You know what? a birth certificate doesn't make you an American."

This got me thinking back to Alpha Centauri and how evocative its beautiful writing is. It's rare to see a work of science fiction take dozens of incompatible philosophies, many of which you'll disagree with, and imagine how those views might adapt to new discoveries and evolve in the future.

Reminds me of when I picked up and read Herodotus and within like 5 pages, his history of the Kingdom of Lydia starts with Candaules telling Gyges "Dude, my wife is so hot. No really, you have to see how hot she is. Hide in our bedroom while she's dressing so you can see!"
i like the story about ancient greece where a bunch of pythagoreans drowned a guy because he proved irrational numbers exist
Anyone trying to convince you that Superman 2025 wasn’t great is doing the world a disservice. That movie is beautiful and I still find myself occasionally reflecting on specific characters and scenes and how important they are today.
they keep trying to convince you superman 2025 was not a great film and you must not fall to their evil

hi #portfolioday! i'm emma kidwell, an award nominated video game writer who likes rpgs with systemic choices and wants to write a romanceable companion someday. i'm currently helping an indie studio with their debut. maybe you'd like to hire me full time in the future: emmkid.info/game-dev
I’m a teacher, and this is correct and true, but it’s also a power fantasy that presupposes an ability to not be so existentially exhausted by 3pm that I spend the evening paralyzed on my couch.
I’m tired of Superheroes always being vague scientists, billionaire CEOs and soldiers/ and or spy’s. More superheroes need to be teachers

this reminds me of one of my favorite posts about Gundam ever.
The way Zeta Gundam tackles gender is Complicated™ but I do applaud it for how it handles Paptimus Scirocco as a villain. The way it so clearly shows how a man will abuse and manipulate the women around him under the guise of being a supportive feminist ally makes him feel so realistically gross

It’s also a problem I unfortunately see accelerating before it will slow down or reverse. I see it in action daily as a teacher. The prevalence and ubiquity of LLM’s have latched onto our eroding consensus on what reality and truth are, and degrade the value of expertise and shared social ideals.
this is not a problem you can fix with calm, reasoned debate. you can't even fix it by improving people's lives with policy. there is no clear, proven, non-violent solution to this issue. finding one is the most significant problem of our age.
