This, like it should not take an implied threat to you for you to be horrified and disgusted that entire groups of people are being terrorized. Trans People deserve basic decency because they do, not because it buys me better treatment by extension.

And having said (& meant) that, I'm tired of framing the protection & defense of any vulnerable group (trans ppl, immigrants, Muslims) as "the moment you compromise the rights of [GROUP], you compromise the rights of every citizen" because damn can we value & defend their humanity for its own sake?

#AutChat A4: Why does everything have to be so bright all the time? Does the airport really need to have EVERY SINGLE LIGHT on ALL DAY? And would it be so bad to add, like, I dunno, one proper highway that bypasses Connecticut in a convenient fashion? Why do 90 AND 2 have to go to Albany?

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q4: How could traveling be easier? What could other people, transit companies, or airlines do to help? #AutChat

A3: More Travel Tips - I create routines, first-thens, and social stories for navigating the airport, checking into a hotel, or getting to the bus station. - Bring snacks! - Bring extra comfy clothes and options for different situations or weather. - Stay hydrated. #AutChat

#AutChat A3: As I said, the primary source of stress is changing plans, so I just don't make plans. The secondary source of stress is that I now almost always travel with kids; leaving in the evening makes them sleep for much of the drive, which helps a lot.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q3: If traveling is stressful for you, what do you do to reduce stress? #AutChat

#AutChat A2: Relaxing. I love driving, I find it comfortable and enjoyable all on its own. And I usually don't plan my trips in great detail, so I avoid being thrown off by changes. I can just kind of let myself enjoy the moment.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q2: What is traveling like for you? #AutChat

#AutChat A2b: I should note that if I *DO* make a plan, and that plan gets changed, it does stress me out to no end. But this is why I rarely do. I'm avoiding the stress by not creating the situation. I usually plan duration and place to stay and absolutely nothing else.

#AutChat A1: I travel when I can. Most often I drive about 12 hours to Ohio for about a week, usually about once a year. I have taken Amtrak for that trip a few times, but not since having kids.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q1: Do you travel? What method (car, bus, plane, etc)? How often? How far? #AutChat

Hello, #AutChat! I'm Tej, and I've always enjoyed travel but rarely had the money to do much of it.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q0: Introduce yourself! Say anything you like about yourself or your interest in #AutChat or in today's topic, travel. Quick reference for this week's #AutChat questions (please wait till they're posted to answer): autchat.com/travel/

I was emotionally abusive of my ex, and I did grow and change, so I know it's possible, and even I rarely say this. And you know why? 1) It is too often used as a cudgel against victims, & 2) Those willing to put in the very difficult and painful work of growing and changing are exceptionally few.

John Wiswell@wiswell.bsky.social

Ever notice "abusers can grow and change" uniformly comes from people who haven't actually checked if someone grew or changed? It's like a magic wand of sentiment they wave over harm.

If a person is not broken enough by the weight of what they've done that they desire their victim to be free of it, that person isn't ready to grow or change. They just want to avoid consequences. They want the freedom to keep doing what they’re doing with a Get Out Of Jail Free card.

And this isn't even part of the work. I want to make sure you understand that. This is just a prerequisite before the work can be done in earnest.

You know what I look for, first thing, to see if a person is really willing to grow and change? Whether or not they're trying to trap their victim in the process with them. I made no progress until I was able to recognize that she deserved better than putting up with me while I did the work.

Check out the Asexuals on Adventures bundle on itchio! Books from 25 authors that include at least one main character that is ace and wrapped up in a fantasy or sci fi story. Check out the bundle while it lasts at itch.io/b/3946/asexu...

Most of my antagonists are either spirits, or rich enough that we don't sit in the same part of the plane. I guess the most likely, then, is Alethea, who does possess someone at least once. Which would be fine, really. She isn't a bad person, her needs just conflict with Matteson's in a big way.

Tell me about your #AwesomeCharacters Hypothetical day! You have just settled in to your seat for a 12 hour flight when the person assigned to the seat next to you arrives. It is one of your antagonists. Who is your seatmate, and how bad is this? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

* The game was a multi-line campaign, that used Vampire the Masquerade, Mage the Ascension, and Werewolf the Apocalypse. We added Demon the Fallen when it came out, but I don’t remember if Wraith was involved. I know Changeling wasn't. Anyway, I played a mortal who eventually became a vampire.

Where do these high budget podcasts come from? Instagram keeps showing me clips of random dudes I do not recognize in full studios with branded gear and a production crew doing podcasts I've never heard of. When I ran a podcast it was me. I was the entire crew. What is happening out there?

On learning instruments Leah: I want to play violin very, very badly! Me: Good news! The first time you do it, you will do it very, very badly.

#AutChat A3: I mean, it kinda looks like everyone doing AutChat today is floating around the same region of the orientation landscape. I think I recall a couple other regulars mentioning being in the same ballpark in the past, as well. But I haven't really read many books where it comes up.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q3: Do you see people of your sexual/romantic/other orientations in autistic communities? In books/materials by and for autistic people? #AutChat

#AutChat A2: I'm gonna be honest, I've only started engaging with neurodivergent spaces OR spaces that talk much about attraction and orientation at all in the last few years. So yes, to a very limited and very recent degree. Not enough to have learned a ton yet.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q2: Do you see people who are neurodivergent like you in discussions of attractions/orientations? In sex education? In conversations about significant relationships? #AutChat

#AutChat A1a: Kinda? This is a work in progress, but basically, understanding how being autistic relates to my emotional interoception issues, and how THAT feels relevant to my limited ability to experience attraction beyond aesthetic appreciation, does suggest that it's all connected somehow.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q1: Did being autistic or similarly neurodivergent play a role in understanding your sexual, romantic, or other attractions/orientations? #AutChat

#AutChat A1b: What I mean by that is that I can appreciate beauty, and have historically described that as 'attraction' because I thought that's what it meant, but for me it's almost always equivalent to recognizing a quality piece of art. Appreciate the craftsmanship without being horny about it.

Hello, #AutChat! I'm Tej. This one might be a doozy, let's see how it plays out.

Remember, kids: you never have to worry about getting left behind if you don't actually want to go where they're going.

#AutChat A4: Within our own communities, kind of a glue, I guess? It's a medium that allows us to bond and relate. Not the only one, but I think an important one. In the broader world? More like a shield. It can suck out there; having some baseline love for oneself helps.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q4: What role do you think autistic/neurodivergent pride plays in autistic/neurodivergent communities? In the broader world? #AutChat

#AutChat A3: I've only known I was autistic for two years now, and didn’t really consider pride at all for most of that. But as mentioned, my thoughts about what it means have changed in the little time I've sat with it. And I think I'm starting to actually connect with the idea.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q3: Has your relationship to the idea of autistic/neurodivergent pride changed over time? #AutChat

#AutChat A2: No. I mean, I heard the words during Disability Pride month, but that was it. This week's chat is the first discussion about it I've witnessed.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q2: Have you seen other people in autistic/neurodivergent communities discussing autistic/neurodivergent pride? Are there differences or similarities to how you think about it? #AutChat

#AutChat A1a: You know, I didn’t get this concept originally. I didn’t see anything to be proud of in finding out I was autistic. Not that I thought autism was bad, but the stuff that wasn't a hassle just kind of felt neutral. Worth consideration, but that's it. Not something worth shame or pride.

#AutChat Mod@autchatmod.bsky.social

Q1: How do you define autistic (or neurodivergent) pride? What does it mean to you personally? #AutChat

View full thread

#AutChat A1e: And that, I think, is the more faithful understanding of both queer pride and autistic/neurodivergent pride. That moment of knowing, here's the truth about me. Here's who I really am, deep down, under all the challenges and difficulties, there I am. Peeking through.

#AutChat A1f: And saying, to ourselves and to one another, "I see that. I see *you*. And what I see is magnificent and deserves to be seen more and deserves to be loved."

Q1: How do you define autistic (or neurodivergent) pride? What does it mean to you personally? #AutChat

#AutChat A1c: When queer folks talk about Pride, sure, there's some degree of being proud about an identity in the sense I thought it meant. As something special. But I've realized that there's a degree to which it also means the same thing as I do when, as a father, I tell my kid I'm proud of them.

#AutChat A1d: When I tell one of my kids I'm proud of them, it isn't just saying that they're special to me or that I take some ego boost from raising them. It's about seeing a glimpse of Who They Are peeking through and urging them to see it as well, and to love what they see as much as I do.

Q1: How do you define autistic (or neurodivergent) pride? What does it mean to you personally? #AutChat

#AutChat A1b: I've been in a difficult life situation lately that arose from questioning my gender. It's unresolved at the moment, I'll explain someday. But it has put me in a position to understand queer discussions in ways I didn’t connect with before. And one thing I've picked up is about pride.

We carried paper maps, but their use varied. I, personally, am just good at memorizing routes and streets. Every time I moved to a new place, I'd spend a couple days just driving around aimlessly and then I knew every street within a half hour of my home. Sometimes we just guessed and got lost.

It's okay if your book sucks a little bit. I say this entirely unironically. Perfect is the enemy of great; do it your way, let your story shine where it shines, and accept that the bits that aren't that good will be accepted because of the bits that are.

Occurs to me I might even add that there are very great books that kinda suck, if that makes sense? Moby-Dick is very hard to get through and some of the jags he takes are genuinely baffling. But then you find yourself thinking of scenes and dialog years later. I dunno.

We'd have more fun modules to play if people tried out more systems. The answer to 5e isn't reskinning it or making something up from scratch. No need to reinvent the wheel with you own entire new system. Try lots of systems first and see what elements you like. Then maybe make a module.

D&D 4e was actually a solid game. It's fun to play and it was very good at being what it was intended to be. The problem with it was that it wasn’t what 3.5 fans wanted so they refused it, and WotC failed to appeal to its actual target demographic. It was a marketing failure, not a design failure.
