Delighted we could support this project: a very important collection conserved and an excellent- and terrifically successful training opportunity. A really brilliant project!
Bryan Deighton, Conservator (Books & Paper) at Cambridge University Library, has completed a project to conserve a 19th-century album filled with medieval manuscript fragments.
🔎Learn more about the work, which was made possible by a grant from @thenmct.bsky.social: https://loom.ly/PkeRIVs
Great stuff! We're currently funding the conservation of a 3/4-century CE parchment codex of Homer's Odyssey @thejohnrylands.bsky.social. A multi-disciplinary team is analysing, imaging, conserving & curating the manuscript - the new techniques being developed will be widely shared.
These papyrus fragments of Homer's Odyssey date to the 2nd century CE!
They were written in Egypt – using early Greek uncial script, a well-practised formal bookhand of the time – roughly 800 years after the original versions of the Odyssey were composed (around 700–650 BCE).

This part-time, 12-month, post of Assistant Conservator at the wonderful Hampshire Archives was made possible by NMCT's grant for the conservation of the Winchester Cathedral rolls. A great opportunity to work on a fascinating collection.

Delighted to have enabled Dorset History Centre to acquire this Royal inspeximus charter of Edward II (1284-1327), 1313 relating to Forde Abbey, Dorset. A rare document and an important addition to the collections.

And thank you from @thenmct.bsky.social too! Our annual report also features all conservation grants last year and has a focus on long term benefits plus some of our partnerships that greatly increase what we can achieve. Our AR is a stunner too! (admittedly thanks to the same brilliant designer)
Thank you for spreading the word! Our annual report has short features on every one of the grants awarded in 2025. It’s also rather beautiful and a good read (I know I’m biased but I am only telling it like it is!).

The new Book & Paper Conservation programme at @glasgow.ac.uk's Kelvin Centre has got off to a great start. As it's the first year there are just 4 students, numbers will increase in future years. Here's a blog from them about their first semester.

At Bury St Edmunds for evensong to mark the donation of the 15c Bury Psalter to the cathedral. A large number of the other surviving books from the medieval abbey library have been in the library of @pembroke1347.bsky.social for 400 years, and are now in the care of @theul.bsky.social in Cambridge.
Save the date! At Evensong on Thursday 5 March, the Cathedral will be formally receiving the Bury Psalter, which has been gifted by the King Edward VI Grammar School Foundation Trust. Dating from around 1400, it was used at the ancient Abbey of St Edmund. Everyone is welcome at this special service

Thanks to our 2020 grant @uonlibraries.bsky.social conserved the collection of Thos. Hine, Nottingham Architect, dating from 17C-19C. The collection was too fragile for access but it's now been digitised & the online catalogue was just launched! mss-cat.nottingham.ac.uk/Calmview/
Several years ago, @thenmct.bsky.social gave a conservation grant to Conwy Archives for conservation of 150+ Foulkes cinema plans from the 1930s. In many cases the plans (together with occasional photographs and job files also in the collection) represent all that survives of the buildings.
Designed by Sidney Colwyn Foulkes the 50 bed hospital was formally opened on October 17th 1925. The plans of the new hospital were reported at the time as a lasting tribute to the artistic conception and skill of the architect. #colwynbay#northwales#wales#localhistory#hospitals#architecture
Christopher de Hamel, expert in medieval manuscripts, gave a 'magnificent' lecture this week on the 13th-century Sarum Master Bible. The packed lecture was at @salisburycathedral.bsky.social, to which FNL donated the Bible last year. The Bible is on display in the Cathedral until 2nd November.
Watch this excellent video of the conservation of a letter by Sir Joseph Banks, 1773. NMCT gave a grant to @josephbankssociety.bsky.social to make this possible; Yeaseul Jung was the conservator (and filmmaker).
