I get tears in my eyes when I take a minute to relax and sit back at either Sunset Dunes or JFK Promenade. Just a few short years ago these spaces were filled with nothing but cars. Now they are filled with people of all ages -- joyful people taking a deep breath and slowing down for a minute. 🥹

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

cal.streetsblog.orgCalifornia Needs More Ways to Fund Transit, Not Fewer. Streetsblog Urges You to Vote No on 43 - Streetsblog CaliforniaProp. 43 would make it harder for Californians to fund transit and transportation projects by giving just over 1/3 of voters the power to block locally backed tax measures.
Patrick Siegman – California issues@patricksiegmanca.bsky.social

No on 43. 43 would “undermine the basic principle of majority rule” by letting a one-third minority block the will of the people, & would “eliminate one of the few viable ways to raise local revenues at a time when local governments' fiscal needs are especially acute." www.spur.org/voter-guide/...

New #TalkingHeadways podcast episode! This week we're joined by Jon Nouchi, Director of Transit for Honolulu. We had a great discussion about a whole host of topics including the idea of iconic transit systems, time as a performance metric, humanizing transit systems, and the Skyline rail line.

I think even thought it's about the BQE, there's a great number of questions this piece asks which was should be asking ourselves... "...we should be precise about what constitutes an alternative. A different highway is not necessarily a different transportation system."

Now that both parts are up, here's a short 🧵on my deep dive into why American roads are a sea of SUVs and trucks – and no, it's not just "consumer demand." 🙄 First: the light truck loophole — which was closed recently! But not in a way people are celebrating ...

usa.streetsblog.orgWhy US Roads Are Full of SUVs and Trucks, Part II — Streetsblog USAYesterday, we looked at how SUVs and pick-ups captured the new car market. Today, let's talk about how they captured the used car market as well.

If conservatives are so concerned about the burden CEQA places on CA High-Speed Rail, why did they carve out HSR from Prop 45? Maybe it has something to do with the numerous CEQA lawsuits filed by GOP-aligned Central Valley landowners against HSR?
