Found this while looking for the Cairo character set & immediately had this rush of memories…I think a MacPaint file of this was available, since I vividly recall a much younger me enjoying the keycaps, and the Athens typeface across the top. I’ve been wanting to do a diy solar project for a while now. Might have to hit you up 😁

i made a tool to help me build tiny off-grid solar power systems for remote pacific islands. in the past i would have named and released it. but i am increasingly doubtful that i can build a tool for others any better than they can build it for themselves.

Experience the first half of Gene Wolfe’s fantasy masterpiece The Book of the New Sun with Shadow & Claw. The Ultimate Gene Wolfe Library supports Alzheimer’s Research UK | https://bit.ly/4zcpRc8

Omg yes!! I used an earlier version of this to send post cards to an elderly relative. It absolutely rocks!! I used the scheduled queue feature too. Glad it to see it being relaunched .

There's a 10% chance that Rowboat will kill us all before the end of the decade. Until then, I hope you'll find it's drastically faster, more accurate, less expensive, and more fun than using an LLM to play with large datasets. Our latest: buttondown.com/rowboat/arch... Give it a try: rowboat.net

Heading to Linz Tomorrow! Hope to see some of you there at the Creative Coding Open House 🏡

Great quote.

Tyler@tylerrothmar.bsky.social

“How strange it is that the sky, which by day is a stationary ground on which the clouds are seen to move, by night becomes the backdrop for Urth's own motion, so that we feel her rolling beneath us as a sailor feels the running of the tide.” --Gene Wolfe--

Huh. Weird arrangement to have them stacked like that. Never seen that approach before.

I'm pleased to announce the release of a browser-based tool for viewing, reconstructing, and exporting 3D data from a GelSight Mini tactile sensor. This unusual $500 device connects like a regular webcam, but can be used as a depth-scanning microscope for surface texture: github.com/CreativeInqu...

Went to the Cleveland Museum of Art and took a bunch of really bad photos of one of the really cool installations that @theowatson.bsky.social and his studio Design I/O worked on. It was super fun to play with. The other installation was down for maintenance. (I was in town for Earthquaker Day)

Shadow of the Torturer all the way to Return to the Whorl. It's a really entertaining listen and a good way to visit or revisit the series.

Today I liberated the GameTrak (c.2004), an unusual 3D sensor featuring two XY joysticks with retractable tethers. It’s ~$20 on eBay and very expressive: 6 channels of 12-bit data at 75Hz. It now emits data for #Processing and #p5.js over OSC, MIDI, WebSocket, and stdout. github.com/CreativeInqu...

These are tasty. 👌

On a reverse-engineering streak, and pleased to present many new additions to my archive of monoline fonts —including 40+ decompiled AutoCAD SHX fonts; the Tektronix 7000-series oscilloscope display fonts; and Glen Kleinschmidt's Fourier Synthesis Character Generator. github.com/golanlevin/p...

Environment SDFs are based on angles, and are all automatically blurrable, so you can animate environment light in a way that would be too expensive to do with image based lighting.

Theo Watson reposted

I've been looking into a way to generate environments for lighting in p5 using strands shader code. That ended up turning into a little library called p5.env to help write some special SDFs that work for this purpose!
