Seeing what other people have to say about this one is real interesting. There's definitely a subset of viewers who went in and saw exactly what they wanted to see, whether that's 'she's a wholly calculating grifter' or 'she was manipulated by these men.' Fascinating

My sister and I spent like two hours dissecting it afterwards and we both came away thinking it's more complicated than either of those--there's more in the mix here--but yeah Holmes should be in jail, and so should Bulwani, and Evans is a hideous piece of shit. That's clear at least lol

There's an old version of the cipher floating around somewhere but here's the one I use! I will sometimes swap/drop letters if it makes the resulting word sound nicer, tho. 'Lie' here lit translates to 'talk around' and implies being deceptive, but not necessarily flat-out lying.

The voices that get printed in these articles are self-selecting: the parents that don't pretend to be ignorant of why they were cut off don't stick around estranged parent forums bc the types you now see in these articles already made them such a cesspool. Just like Nextdoor!

There's definitely an intersection b/e this type of parent and Qanon, MAGA, antivax, and other circles characterized by entitlement and online circlejerking that would make for more interesting and socially useful journalism, but I guess writing this kind of thing is easier.
