This guy really has a way with words.

I see we're having a debate about whether it's okay to go back to "X," the site owned by a trillionaire fascist who is currently bankrolling the GOP's midterm, throttled Ukraine's war effort, and still winkingly allows vast amounts of CSAM on his service Answer: No, what the fuck is wrong with you

A tremendous loss for all of us.

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.

This is the same motivation @therealfitz.com has used to frame the insurgent Data Liberation Front he and others started at Google over a decade ago. Competition is good, and switching costs shouldn't be the thing that constrains users from getting the best products.

Early on in my time here I was sketching out a Bandcamp alternative hosted on the ATmosphere. The necessary affordances weren't there to make the market work (private data), but there was also not a way to get funding to build it because there is no moat or ROI. The data model is open, competition

Read Dan's post, then read Danny's comic. You won't regret it. You *will* regret not having tissues on hand. Thanks Dan.

A week or so ago @theverge.com published an incredible comics-essay about Danny Fenster, who was locked up in a Burmese prison in 2021. Danny was also my student in another lifetime. I wrote a short piece about this extraordinary piece of journalism. dansinker.com/posts/2026-0...

Pro-tip from @hypatia.bsky.social:when moving Signal messages from one phone to another, place both phones on an ice pack to avoid thermal throttling. Seriously, it works -- tested with both iPhone to iPhone and Android to Android (Cloud xfer is still in beta)

Once again I have had to learn that whenever I think the battery life of my Mac laptop is dwindling, I need to open up Activity Monitor only to discover that *multiple* programs are burning through CPU just for funsies. And one of them is Slack. Always Slack.

You should read this essay. This quote. This quote.

This week’s newsletter is about eating and who you choose to do it with. “If you had dinner with a trans friend on Tuesday, and dinner with fascists on Thursday, your trans friend had dinner with a fascist on Tuesday.“ buttondown.com/monteiro/arc...

Not on my list of things to do today: open up an email and start sobbing. This is just beautiful. Thank you Dan.

With the Trump Administration about to roll its ugly occupation into Chicago, I wanted to write a little lyrical love letter to the city. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Years ago @johntolva.bsky.social and @dansinker.com bought Zach and I these massive 5 foot tall trophie. John's wife and kids went to pick them up and the kids were just *flabbergasted* that you could just *make up something* and buy a trophy for it.

James@james.tarnation.lol

the trophy store does not check your stats. you can walk in, order “world’s greatest mind” and walk out with gold-plated proof.

Every so often this banger surfaces and I every. single. time. I read it all the way to the end. Incredible storytelling.

For those who don't know this story, which I first shared six years ago today.... This one time I got my days wrong at work and ended up alone in a room with my boss and the President of Ireland while I was on ketamine. 🧵

There's a production of Little Shop that is seeking a "male-identifying" puppeteer. I asked why, because there's nothing about the role that requires it to be a man. I was told that it was due to "dressing room limitations." Did I just apply? Yes, I did.

Holy smokes -- I've been using Gmail for OVER 20 YEARS!?!?!?! Please excuse me while I step away for a moment and crumble into a pile of dust.

On April 1, 2004: Google launched Gmail with 1GB of free storage—100x more than competitors. Many thought it was an April Fools’ joke. It wasn’t. Gmail changed how we email forever, proving game-changing ideas don’t always look serious. #StayCurious #Skystorians #DiveIntoDiscovery
