This seems like a good idea, really. So! "Tweety Fish" is my (auld) hacker handle; I am in the Cult of the Dead Cow. I have a PhD in vision science, I apply it to machine learning. I had a startup trying to make autonomous cars less bad for pedestrians (didn't work; they're bad) but now am free.
There's been an avalanche of new sign ups, so it's time for reintroductions.
Hi. I'm Andrew. I am a deep-sea ecologist and conservation technologist. My work orbits around how humans use and misuse technology to explore, exploit, protect, and plunder the hardest to reach places on the planet.
We get a subexponential time algorithm for 3SAT and apparently the models couldn’t even find one little cryptanalysis result. I guess cryptographers have just been killing it!
If you've never seen this movie, really, go do that right now. It's unbelievably brutal and just gets worse and worse for the protagonists with such impossible verve and elan that I can't even tell you. By far the best use of a Monkees cover in cinema.
John Woo’s Bullet in the Head has the wedding reception scene from The Graduate except instead of ‘plastics’ the old guy tells him to smuggle drugs in Vietnam
oh, one note: if you happen to be in a relationship with somebody whose family had to flee the khmer rouge it's kind of an iffy date night option. otherwise, hell yeah

Evidence "shows that Trump lied about kicking Epstein out of his Mar-a-Lago club," according to a new report from the House Judiciary Dem staff.
The report also reveals for the first time Beatrice Keul's account of allegedly having been raped by Trump.

If we’re going to go all the way to “there is no ethical way to work in tech in the United States, full stop” I feel like we should get on with it. It’s a defensible (no pun intended) position, let’s do this
For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.
“Billionaires who popularized stock-based lending include Larry Ellison and Elon Musk. Both borrow to avoid having to sell shares—which could trigger a taxes and dilute their voting rights—in companies they founded.”

Basically the whole foreign policy team needs to be purged and many of them need to be locked up. It leaves us with a somewhat thin bench, but fortunately we can raid the stock of laid-off international aid and development staffers.
Shield laws made it possible for over 90,000 people in total-ban states across the US to receive abortion pills by mail in 2025.
Our Monthly Abortion Provision Study shows telehealth abortion has been crucial to expanding access nationwide. More via @jamanetworkopen.com: https://gu.tt/4kin6Sd
one of my kids' teachers did a thing where the kids had to do a reading comprehension exercise on a paragraph she made chatgpt fart out and come the fuck on now
Just a reminder that there is no good data to support these uses in K12, we are just testing it live all on kids who won’t ever be these ages again and can’t get them back if we fuck it up.
The US is not about to have a free and fair election. The state has put its thumb on the scale to favor the ruling party in multiple ways.
It's a mostly free, somewhat unfair election. But still one where the ruling party can be overwhelmed by numbers. Hence the term "competitive authoritarianism."
It is atrocious we have to operate under this constant credible and explicit threat from one political party, the fact we keep calling it a “free and fair election” needs some light revising
never mind why I searched it but I just searched this site for the phrase "soup time" and it is one of the most wholesome things I've ever experienced bsky.app/search?q=sou...
My son was suspended from school for giving another student a "pigjob" and now we're all sitting around the empty dinner table as a family with our palms flat on the surface staring at nothing in particular in silence. It is understood none of us will ever ask what the word means.
i think. like ok if i ever fucked up so bad my eighth grade teacher posted up on a street corner to literally picket my behavior. i mean i would simply kill myself like that’s all there is to it

The internet was a DARPA project. The graphical web browser was invented at a lab for calculating nuclear payloads. UNIX was developed as part of the Bell System, inextricable from the MIC. Cell phones are based on military radio technology. GPS was classified .mil tech. Let’s gooooooo
This is why it was a good line, because yes there are Americans who think of The Cheesecake Factory as a special occasion restaurant but Trump is not one of them. So thank you very much Donald for taking the bait.
New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility.

Never attribute to malice what you can attribute to laziness. As someone who spent a decade in political communications and corporate PR, the straight answer is that either she or her reps reached out to the NYT and offered to provide quotes. And lazy reporters gratefully accepted the offer.
Also, I'd love to know how two different stories -- each written by three reporters, with no overlap in the authors -- managed to find Jolene Riessen and make her the stand-in for apolitical Iowa farmers.
a kinda interesting thing that The Files have shown is “the limits of corporate media’s control of information.” like, this stuff has been frozen out of the discourse of DC and political elites, and the national legislature and news coverage, but it’s still widely known and cared about.
the biggest presidential scandal in history but the political media largely acts as if it's not happening. hasan piker has received more mainstream political media coverage over the last 6 months than trump's connections with epstein has
It is interesting watching them try out all kinds of different stuff to try to stop everyone from getting mad.
I swear, everyone getting really mad at a tech company really works. It’s one of the few things that does.
As far as I can tell, the first thing anyone uses an AI for in Neuromancer is summarizing a bunch of documents no one wants to read. Prescient as always!
this might rank as one of the most important outcomes of the night if it happens. would give dems the ability to begin to make north carolina a democracy
I would pick this up but then I'd also need to get a midcentury house with lots of glass on a hillside in marin and a pair of 12' tall electrostatic speakers and, you know, where does it end
I had my AI agent create an app called “Lunch” to help me with decision fatigue and boost my productivity. It has a few pictures of things I might like to eat. Tapping one spawns a subagent to order that item on Uber Eats and 60-90 minutes later I’m eating. It’s 600 thousand lines of JavaScript.
House Judiciary Democrats have uncovered reports alleging Trump was an "active participant in Jeffrey Epstein’s abuse of young women in the mid-to-late 1990s."
