HSBC quarterly pre-tax profits surge 32% to $9.6bn (£7.14bn). Banks receive bailouts, subsidies, pay measly return to savers, hike charges, rely on the state as lender of the last resort but threaten retaliation if taxed. Must levy windfall tax.

Sending my deepest condolences to BC as they elected a CONservative government after 93 years. There’s probably a reason why it’s been that long! Was hoping after hearing and seeing what your neighbour Alberta is going through a better decision would of been made 💔

Beware of finance industry lobbying. It hired PwC (the firm that delivers dud audits) to produce a report, claiming that UK banks face highest rates of tax. The report included taxes not borne by banks. Omitted countries that levy higher rates of taxes. Integrity never gets in the way of profits.

Yesterday a parent was surprised to learn that 1 adult supervises 5 classrooms of students, including a Grade 1 class, at lunch. We’ve been trying for a long time but we’re not doing a good job getting the word out about how education cuts are impacting kids during every part of the school day.

Nathan Cullen on the immigration questions: "This is classic dog whistle politics. Danielle Smith was always going to lose this referendum and needed something else to talk about. Unfortunately, blaming immigrants writ large is something that the right sometimes reach for out of desperation."

#Alberta a suggestion…if you along with many other Canadians are feeling devastated about the results of the questions regarding immigrants, please make an extra effort to be kind and welcoming to those that the UCP have chosen to “other” as I imagine they are feeling even worse than we are. 🥹🇨🇦🥹

Since the first few waves of votes were counted last night, I’ve been struggling to think of what to say about the results. Here’s a few of my thoughts. heathermcphersonmp.substack.com/p/we-chose-u...

And now I’m waiting for the explanation why adding to GHG emissions to fuel data centres nobody needs is just fine. Must be that Claude hallucinated a brilliant way to cool the planet.

Some corporate Democrats and pundits think the party has gone too far "left" and needs to readjust towards the “center.” Rubbish. Where’s the center between democracy and oligarchy, and why would Democrats want to be there?
