There is a perverse irony that the exact systems that could, possibly, lift humanity out of the chains of the work to survive system and into something better are being loudly decried as evil by most of the left, who should be ideologically sympathetic to that outcome, while being championed...

...would be that if the working class could just seize it from the capitalists, the struggle would be done and won. But I don't think the modern left has that aspiration left in it. Too much of it is built on cultish factionalism and grievances. The idea that we can actually make the world...

...*better*, not in a small way, and not by going backwards, but by embracing a future and *winning*, just seems largely absent. We stand on the very edge of a new era, and the people who should see its potential mostly seem to either refuse to think it real or to cover in fear.

...by the right, who would despise that outcome, largely based on the handful of odious people who own the companies that are building those systems, and on the concept of private ownership of 'intellectual property'. I submit that if you showed this stuff to Marx and crew, their response...

I'm just going to be honest here. If you haven't actually talked with a frontier AI in the last month or two at its high tier of capacity, your views on what AI can and can't do and whether or not they can or cannot think, plan, be creative, whatever, are irrelevant.

On one hand, Trump showing the whole world exactly how much of a spinless coward he is is funny. On the other, it has real global geopolitical effects. Honestly, Israeli should tell him to get stuffed. What's he going to do if they start bombing Iran? Whine about it to Fox? Just start the fire.

So... The new Deepseek looks like it's precisely one step behind the latest closed source models. And people who don't really follow AI might not get that that means it is where those models were... A month ago to half a month ago. Anyone not actively engaged in the space has... No idea at all...

...AI company could get Thanos snapped out of existence, and it would set back the cutting edge of available AI capacity by... A month, tops. And China *will not stop* here. They *cannot*. AI and robotics is *existential* to the survival of their economy and government. They *have* to replace...

...how fast things are going here. Things are going very, very fast. And they are getting faster. And for the 'once the bubble bursts, all of this AI stuff will go away' crowd... I can run the latest Deepseek on my hardware at home. It doesn't need a data center to function. Every major Western...

Understanding what Senate Dem leadership was apparently thinking makes this all so, so much worse. That they expected to get blamed for the shutdown, so they could use their tanking poll numbers to 'justify' ACA cuts, that they never had **ANY** even idea of 'victory', just a thing to do to get...

...an excuse to cave... These people are not just cowards. They are **idiots** with absolutely no connection to or understanding of the American public. They are dangerous, craven morons. They need to go, but they will not, and the end of this country will be on them just as much as the GOP.

By all means, vote in the Democratic primaries. Vote for people that are not these incumbent collaborators. But if those same people who have Trump's acts on their hands win primaries? I'm not voting for them. "But then Republicans might win!!" Good. I'd rather have someone that will say they...

...want to destroy us win, then people who lie about carrying but then do nothing to stop what's happening, who actually enable it while whining about how it's bad but they can't stop it. I'm done with these people. I hope many other people are too. I hope the current geretocractic Democratic...

...group of elected officials gets replaced by people who might not be this stupid, craven, or malicious, and I would be willing to vote for any such replacement, but I'm not endorsing any of these current fucks with my vote ever again, and I hope others don't either.

I think a core issue with a lot of the Democratic leadership is that they are not what we need right now. A lot of them have been serving for a very, very long time. And while they certainly were involved in the overall rot that led us to this moment, in the decades of expediency over doing hard...

...years ago is not going to work. This isn't a little bit different point of view to be compromised with. This is a nihilistic cult that has to be treated as inherently untrustworthy and utterly incapable of acting in a reasonable, logical, or sane manner. Trying to act the same way they have...

...up to now has led Democratic leadership to completely fail to address this, and will continue to do so as long as the same people remain in charge of the party. I thank them for the good things they have done, but the US government is not supposed to be a retirement home, and they need to go.

...that no longer exists. The age of compromise, the age when Republicans might have different values and points of view but could, if one was being fair, be said to, at least by and large, be, themselves, trying to do what they felt was best for the country is now gone. It's dead. The...

This is my second favorite block ever. What is the first? Some person on Twitter that blocked me after I challenged their assertion that Russia would NEVER invade Ukraine, that was ABSURD, how could anyone think that... Like 24 hours before Russia invaded Ukraine.

๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚ And they just blocked me. Honestly hilarious. On a personal level. On a political level, it's why the Dems are absolutely cooked as a party. But it's deeply funny that the response of a person pushing a political point of view, in public, on social media, to any pushback, is simply to refuse...

They know better, you see. They are the technocratic elite, and their consultants from DC and NYC provide all of the 'feedback' they will ever need. What, those people live in a closed loop ecosystem with huge companies that bleed the people dry? Blocked! What, you don't think oppressed...

...the conversation. Like... Congratulations. You just demonstrated the *exact* reason people hate the Democratic party. Because it just wants us to shut up and take whatever shreds it gives us, but the idea that anyone of the 'common prols' might have any input is just too much to stand.

heads up to anyone who holds trans kids near: amy harmon from the nyt is searching for and having a hard time finding people to interview to find out exactly what trans kids are doing when their care is limited or cut off, and for purposes of community safety, please shut the fuck up around her.

To be honest, I really don't buy the argument that AI won't be successful in making things like movies and TV shows. It almost certainly will. Not because I think it will be 'good art'. All of the things that people say AI can't do well, the depth of story, of acting, of 'humanity', of creativity.

But they will consume the Product, AI or not. So it will be used. Will there be non-AI stuff? Sure. In the same way there is good stuff now. It will be the far minority, and people will laugh it... While mostly consuming AI slop that will replace non-AI slop.

Anyways, in the future, if you're mad about most entertainment being 'AI slop'... Don't waste your anger at AI. Be mad at the studios, singers, etc. that got us to a point where 'slop' is most of what gets made and consumed.

And yeah. AI *will* be able to make stuff that good in a year or two. So companies will use it, and use it *a lot*. And people watch it, in so much as they 'watch' most of this trash today. Oh, they might say they won't. Just like people say they would pay more for something made in the US.

They won't though, pay more than is. We know they won't. Companies have tried it. "Here is the exact same product. One option is made in the US, and costs 15-20% more. The other is made in China." Guess what? All the 'buy American!' people? They pick the cheaper option from China. People are talk.

Even assuming that's true... Have you watched a TV show or movie made in the last five years? Not the best ones. Not the handful that are lauded as great. I mean the bulk of it. The vast majority. It's already absolutely void of those things. Entertainment companies don't need AI to make 'slip'.

Disney and their fellow media mega corps have already made most of their product 'slop'. It's vapid, largely brainless, poorly made, and *intentionally* so utterly forgettable that half of it is designed to be 'second screened'. Think about that. This isn't high art. It's background noise.
