It is honestly ludicrous to not take advantage of China's solar overcapacity. Take the hit, achieve the goals.

Jan Rosenow@janrosenow.bsky.social

Solar has overtaken nuclear. A decade ago it supplied 1% of the world's power. In 2025 it met three quarters of global demand growth. Almost nobody saw it coming. I spoke to Jocelyn Timperley at BBC Future about why. www.bbc.co.uk/future/artic...

They were also opposed by the PS, LFI and the Ecologists.

John Springford@johnspringford.bsky.social

Re France, fiscal consolidation + retirement age reform + other acts to raise employment are opposed by Le Pen in the current parliament. She promises implausible spending cuts when she's in power. The ECB won't compress spreads in these circs. So: the French electorate vs bond traders.

Unfortunately, every new directive is an omnibus waiting to happen...

Imagine being filmed screaming for help. Also, imagine how dumb you have to be to film your crimes. And also how disconnected from civic society you would have to be if filming a crime is your first response to witnessing it.

To be fair, the EU parliament for a long time was awash with Russian money. UKIP were no exception in being implicated. And, yes, that happened. But plenty of people on here on the center and left are falling for Russian interference and amplification in France and Germany right now.

Otto English@ottoenglish.bsky.social

There's PLENTIFUL evidence that Russia interfered in the EU referendum. Most sensible people on both sides accept that as a fact. If Farage can counter this obvious truth then he should present his case to us all rather than grandstanding and lazily calling Burnham a "liar".

Honestly the only question surrounding Glucksmann is whether Attal and Phillippe are smart enough to court his votes.

Emma Pearson@emmapearson.bsky.social

On the 🇫🇷 Left it's all going very well . . . a planned 'primary of the united left' went ahead without the Greens, Communists or the hard left (LFI and various ex LFI). The winner, Raphaël Glucksmann of centre-left Place Publique, was enfariné (had flour chucked over him) within minutes of his win

There was also Westminster incompetence before, during and after it.

Rachel Sylvester@rachelsylvester.bsky.social

Andy Burnham says UK authorities are “clear” there was Russian interference in the Brexit referendum as @catneilan.bsky.social reports in today’s @theobserveruk.bsky.social observer.co.uk/news/nationa...

What will be the political allegances of the MEPs they send? Is this the EU as was or the EU as it will be? Will they aim to increase the EU budget or slash it? So many questions, so little emotional will to face them

Ive been saying it for years: France is THE FUTURE: Three equal-sized massive manifestations of the politicized internet with the legacy parties squeezed to irrelevance in-between.

David Henig@davidheniguk.bsky.social

There are elements here unique to France, and then there is wisdom applicable to the UK and elsewhere in Europe. With no easy pathways to sufficient growth, an ageing population, and rising debt costs, there is a squeeze on. And an awful lot of denial about this.

Yes. Britain is France's sibling. There are no two countries on earth who understand and love each other more, who are willing to die for each other quicker, and who see through each other's BS and cannot wait for an excuse to beat the crap out of each other.

David Henig@davidheniguk.bsky.social

"reopen"? A large part of the UK's problems with the EU comes down to refusing to acknowledge over 1000 years of entangled history in favour of a far more recent (and dubious) Empire / Commonwealth story which could in some hands break down into a little Englander one

The Trump blueprint was to cause so much damage so quickly that there was very little for the law to salvage. The PiS blueprint was to politicise the constitutional tribunals to the point of constitutional absurdity. Le Pen is a blunt and vicious instrument. It will be bad.

Emma Pearson@emmapearson.bsky.social

Fascinating - and fairly terrifying - interview with @rim-sarah.eurosky.social that answers the question 'Yes, but Le Pen's policies would mostly be illegal/unconstitutional, so why worry about them?'

This sounds like Eastern European propaganda

Under Sarkozy, Hollande, and Macron, France became a tax haven, multiplying fiscal schemes for large firms and wealthy households. Public budgets now lack billions. Now financial markets put more pressure. Meanwhile, high school students protest because they don't have enough teachers - or desks.

Well-put

If the UK does not opt for EU membership, it has a choice between having its legal and policy frameworks shaped by the EU with seamless access to the EU's trade system and having the UK's legal and policy frameworks shaped by the EU with limited access to the EU's trade system.

With that, Europe's "super election year" starts early. To come in 2027: French presidential & legislative elections plus general elections in Estonia, Finland, Greece, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and major state elections in Germany. Roughly 6 in 10 EU voters at polls in a span of c.12 months.

One of effects of the internet on the far right is that young people aren't necessarily getting their propaganda from the neo-Nazi scene directly, but are able to get a wealth of material from the original Nazi era that was previously much more difficult to access.

L'hypothèse selon laquelle ce serait Marine Le Pen et son proche entourage qui auraient poussé Jordan Bardella sous le bus de @mediapart.fr me semble erronée.
