Yes! Issues now have a compact view too.

In preview, the pull request list on @github.com has a “Compact display density” 🗜️ mode. It fits more rows of shorter panels. Is this option going to be available for the issue list too? Could we get that for the issue list?

We got there! Non-destructive settings was the last pre-1.0 feature, and it’s live with Penpot Desktop 0.25.0. It’s time to scope bugs, remove deprecated solutions, and release 1.0. Installers are at github.com/author-more/... with the community Flatpak in sync.

github.comRelease v0.25.0 (2026-09-10) · author-more/penpot-desktopFeatures Added non-destructive settings. #348 The change upgrades the application's user settings configuration, making the settings retrieval non-destructive, where invalid or unknown entries are...

You can explicitly set a charging limit on macOS now, between 80 and 100%. Must be a 26.x addition. It was not possible a few months ago. System Settings > Battery, then click the circled “i” icon next to Charging. Good addition. Optimised Charging is a nice concept, but it’s slow to adapt.

What great news, window state persistence landed in Electron. I was following its development after seeing the RFC for the window state API, and now Penpot Desktop will migrate to the built-in solution 🎉.

If you use a local #LLM for code predictions and it’s too verbose (generates ten lines of code when completing the one would do), try using the “base” variant of the model. “Base” is designed for “predict next token” and works better for text extension.

Penpot Desktop v0.24 is live. The release focuses on the local instance creator, enabling automatic Docker configuration updates when containers are created/updated, and porting the upstream @penpot.app Docker Compose config updates (e.g. the MCP server) to the app’s Docker configuration template.

Surprisingly, in the last few months, my go-to library for building components became… @lit.dev. For its well-balanced abstraction that makes web components not feel like a chore. You should try it if you bounced off web components in the past or dread working on a custom element.

You would think rolling 12 or higher with 2d8 can’t be that bad. It’s a little over a 23% chance. Painful if you are rolling a skill check.

Going down the rabbit hole of interactive conference badges and landed on the following setup: - 3-5" LCD + ESP32, - 2400mAh LiPo battery, - laser-cut PVC front, - 3D-printed back (battery holder, colour accent). Now need to make sure the display module has built-in charging - no battery swaps.

I was making an eBook, and the space of publishing software could really use some concept of reusable components. Currently, if you need to change the design (e.g. fancy quote, recipe structure), you are in for a journey through the entire eBook. Unless you use Paged.js, the web way, coding though.

Penpot Desktop v0.22 is out. It’s a small release with: 📝 improved instance editing (more accessible UI structure, experience unified with local creator), 📇 standardised installer naming (also smaller, arch-specific Windows installers), 🏷️ improved Flathub meta info. github.com/author-more/...

github.comRelease v0.22.0 (2025-12-16) · author-more/penpot-desktopFeatures Added instance properties editor. #257 Moved basic instance edits (label, colour) and management (deletion) to a settings modal. It reduces the risk of accidentally deleting an instance, ...

You can now specify the @penpot.app version of the local instance to create. It defaults to the “latest”, but any valid Penpot Docker repository tag should work, with suggestions for ten of the most recent tags.

Recently, I learnt that in VS Code, you can have inline Git blame info without needing any extensions. 1. Go to Settings. 2. Search for "Git blame". 3. Tick the box for "Git › Blame › Editor Decoration”. Or you can set "git.blame.editorDecoration.enabled" to `true` in the Settings JSON. Enjoy.

I went on a small bug fixing spree for Penpot Desktop this week. It means: - visual indicators for colourless tabs' states, - a persistent "new tab" button, - and more tab space in macOS's full-screen mode. Just one more issue with instances to sort out and the v0.12.1 update will be out to you.

New release Design Tokens are here and much more! Tokens Studio Have you been missing Design Tokens? Penpot is the first design tool to integrate native design tokens, developed in collaboration with Tokens Studio by Hyma. Tokens are small design decisions expressed as code to master complexity.

The new tab design is almost ready. Some of the incoming changes are: - Colour coding is consistent across themes. - A tab's background colour is tinted with its instance's assigned colour. - The tab opening menu features colour coding.

The settings panel is complete. If you see anything you would like to improve, please share your thoughts. While larger changes will have to wait until the next iteration, I'm happy to address smaller issues or suggestions before the release. It's time to tackle the top bar now.

We are approaching a big milestone for the Penpot Desktop’s Q1 cycle! The multiple instances feature now has end-to-end UI support (tabs, opening, and management settings), for your ease of use and control. I’m focusing on QA and polishing to ensure it runs smoothly. Stay tuned for the release!

You will soon be able to use multiple instances at once in Penpot Desktop. Here is a prototype view with different instances open in their own, colour-coded tabs. The menu is part of the ‘+’ (add tab) button. On the side, a representation from the settings file, introduced in the last version.

Move, sync, share, back-up. The file based settings are locked in for the next Penpot Desktop release. With the multi-instance support, coming soon, a file will keep instances details in your user directory.
