Worrying how much form this Labour Govt now has for going soft on violence & threats from Far Right thugs & white supremacist groups causing mayhem on our streets. They continually play down the threat these fascists pose to this country whilst carting off pensioners and climate activists to jail.

Zack Polanski@zackpolanski.bsky.social

Labour has banned peaceful protest for Palestine. It should not be hard for Andy Burnham to condemn thugs.

The attacks in Edinburgh, in which an armed bare-chested white man terrorised Muslims, leaving five people injured, don't feature on a single newspaper front page this morning. Two tier journalism

Pretty much what most people think.. he's a cowardly man afraid of change or upsetting tech bosses and private interests. Also stop this "fundamentally a good man".. no he isn't at all.

Cat Neilan@catneilan.bsky.social

Jess Phillips has quit

Sums up the state and bias of the British media that ITV's This Morning has on RW Brexiter Camilla Tominay of GB News & the Telegraph and ex-Tory Gyles Brandreth to talk about politics.

This sums up the hypocrisy of the British media and how through the looking glass we are... Phillips - a man with a long history of writing anti-Muslim screeds & far right sympathising in the Times, prodding the chest of a Jewish man, trying to lecturing him about anti-semitism.

Saul Staniforth@saulstaniforth.bsky.social

Trevor Phillips, who has a history of Islamophobia & is hosting Melanie Phillips on his program this morning, asks @zackpolanski.bsky.social if Falkners comments blaming Muslims are accurate Zack is spot on, Falkners comments were inflammatory. Why didn't Heidi Alexander condemn them too?

The comparison is also fked up as the manosphere freaks seek to manipulate & subjugate women, whereas the "angry young women" are protecting themselves from these men by simply ignoring them.

Andy Burnham Earnestness Enjoyer@jorisbinned.bsky.social

Sorry but it is genuinely creepy that this (engaged,36yearold) guy spends his time getting angry that Gen Z women are "intolerant" for not wanting to date someone who supports a sexually abusive, racist misogynist who is destroying the fucking world and making it more expensive to live as we speak

Never ceases to amaze me what desperate slop journalists try to elevate to a scandal for politicians on the Left compared to RW politicians. Farage with a rap sheet x10 worse than this just glides through political life without scrutiny & Badenoch's skeletons warranted about 5 mins discussion.

Peter Walker@peterwalker99.bsky.social

When I asked Zack Polanski about his brief if memorable career as a breast size-enhancing hypnotherapist, he told me that it was never about actual breast size, just body image. This was not the case, and this new BBC article - and audio clip – makes that plainer. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Curious how when Reform's Matt Goodwin is posting up white supremacist rhetoric & trying to incite civil wars it's not considered nasty or sectarian by the British media.

Farrukh@implausibleblog.bsky.social

Charlie Stayt, "A lot of people think those leaflets are the nasty side of politics" Zack Polanski, "Genocide is quite nasty"

I'm astonished a party leading the polls has a campaign manager for a huge by-election spouting holocaust denialism, indulging in overt anti-semitism & freely using the N-word on X... and there is utter silence from the British media, not a single article or comment anywhere .. wtf is going on!?

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Manchester Mill find the small group of Reform activists includes several with v overt prejudices. They fairly note that Goodwin can't be expected to vet them all in advance. To date, the site report he is not willing to criticise ant of it once revealed either manchestermill.co.uk/goodwins-gan...

"Removed himself from the community" here means simply refusing to unequivocally back Israel's far right, genocidal Govt of ethnic cleansers and participate in the charade of weaponising anti-semitism against your opponents to prop up said regime.

How anyone thinks a Trump-led NATO keeps EUR safe is baffling, he's currently trying to sell out UKR to Putin, rewarding dictator & has no problem undermining EUR security. A sovereign, EUR defence alliance should be the ultimate goal, you can't rely on a fascist who loves dictators to protect us.

Some good news this morning. Wales does not need more Austerity delivered by a Thatcherite-loving, English nationalist bigot. Labour also deservedly put on their arse. Big momentum now going forward into the Senedd elections for PC, let's make it happen. Dewch ymlaen, Cymru!

Whilst @vicderbyshire.bsky.social is one of the better interviewers out there. I still find there's such a disparity with how mainstream presenters treat pro-green energy/net zero advocates & the anti net-zero/fossil fuelists. Ed M challenged on every claim, the Tory barely pulled up on any of hers.

The populist Right (and Far Right) simply have absolutely nothing to offer but fear and endless culture wars to divide us. Their politics exist only to serve theor billionaire class masters and their ever expanding accumulation of our wealth and assets.

Zack Polanski@zackpolanski.bsky.social

Many on the right will try and belittle and undermine what’s happening. But here’s the truth. Tens of thousands are joining Greens. Polls are at record highs. People are just starting to feel hope again. join.greenparty.org.uk

Which work? Calling for gay people to be stoned to death? Blaming airplane crashes on black pilots? Anti-vax bullshit? Election denialism? Pushing Great Replacement Theory? Kirk’s murder is awful and ominous for this country. But no, we don’t need to honor him or “continue his work.”

It's startling that Adil is the only British broadcaster/journalist willing to call out far right extremism and pose the questions the Govt & Media are far too spineless to ask. It's left to him to ask why this Govt refuses to condemn racist, fascist mobs or why they won't protect people from them.

Adil Ray@adilray.bsky.social

A standing ovation for someone found guilty of tweeting about burning migrants alive. She was sentenced to 31 months for inciting racial hatred. The judge said “You intended to incite serious violence. What you did encouraged activity which threatened or endangered life.” Who’s calling this out?

What I've been saying. You can't rely on US "security guarantees" expecting Trump to protect UKR, esp. when he was out there y'day blaming them for this war! If Putin attacks & breaks his shitty deal, Trump sure as shit won't bring US military might down on RUS, he'll blame EUR/UKR before Putin.

Nicholas Grossman@nicholasgrossman.bsky.social

Any US security guarantees to Ukraine would not be credible if Trump is president, sorry. Right idea in theory—Russia already broke multiple deals, already attacked aggressively twice, only US can really scare them—but even if Europe got US to agree, it won’t be credible, and therefore cannot work.

Amazing how in a week we've gone from "I'm gonna seriously punish Russia if they don't stop!" to "hey let's meet up Putin & attempt to divide up Ukraine again as a reward". Almost like this was the plan all along. Utterly idiotic & self-defeating from a geopolitics POV for the US.

Adam Kinzinger@adamkinzinger.substack.com

For those who were hopeful that Trump “pivoted” on Ukraine, the meeting in Alaska will sell Ukraine down the river. Trump is scared to death of Putin. Taco

At this point of her self-humiliation she's probably a few months away from saying she doesn't identify as black anymore either. Might as well just come out & say "please vote for me white supremacists and racists who despise my ethnicity"

There is a growing violent movement which senior politicians and media organisations are now not only seeking to justify, but actively encouraging. Why it's time for politicians to instead start standing up to the wholly illegitimate concerns of the far right www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/illegitima...

Famously working class white men on the Left like myself don't actually exist, everyone on the Left is actually posh & privileged living in the London bubble. These tropes were lazy in 2016 when every RW outlet/pundit was punting it to exhaustion but sorry those latter points are pure bullshit.

Kenan Malik@kenanmalik.bsky.social

Not vibes, just the story of recent years, from dismissal of Brexit voters as “racist” to derision for “white van man”, from job ads for the “benefit class, criminal class and/or underclass” to portrayals of people on benefits as “lazy” and gaming the system.

Showing contempt for people on benefits and calling them lazy..? That has been classic fodder from the Sun/Mail/Express and every RW columnist for 30 years. How are you putting that on the left? 😂

The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe. Will we listen to his words today?

Ian Dunt pointing out here that no person could possibly have won an election w/ 34% vote share but McCummings. With his purging of all dissenting voices being good politics, as clearly all were nasty antisemites. Nor apparently is there any middle ground between Stalinism & BlackRock Blue Labour.

Obv. fails to mention that Starmer was treated rather well by the media up until this point and the establishment seemed more than happy to play along to remove the feckless Tories as this new guy was no apparent threat to their vested interests.. hell even Murdoch's rags offered up an endorsement.

Beginning to feel like every time they take the guardrails off and Musk decides to personally intervene and micro-manage how things run, his companies start going to shit.

ESG Hound@esghound.com

One of the SpaceX fan cams caught a crane collapse at Starbase in Texas. This kind of thing only happens from a completely unacceptable safety culture failure and I'd be shocked if there wasn't a death here

Farage trying to claim that workplace "DEI" training funding somehow costs double the entire London Met Police annual budget. Or the entire budgets of the Met, G. Manchester, W. Midland, W & S. Yorkshire & Merseyside police forces combined. I'm sure the BBC & Sky will be rigorously call this out..

This gets the story wrong on a fundamental level because it assumes DOGE was about what Musk claimed. DOGE was about stealing data, getting Musk contracts, shutting down investigations and regulations of Musk’s companies, and terrorizing federal workers. On that front, it succeeded.

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com

“Musk came to Washington all Cybertrucks and chain saws, ready to destroy the bureaucracy,” write Ashley Parker and Michael Scherer. But as he winds down his service, “he has found himself isolated within the upper reaches of the Trump administration”: https://theatln.tc/ckySMUOS

So the establishment hounded Lineker out for speaking out on the genocide. Gotta have impartiality at the BBC you see, couldn't have say, the editor of the Spectator, who attends far right conferences w/ Orban & Douglas Murray ranting on Twitter about the EU hosting a BBC politics show now.

We've allowed the debate to forever be conducted on RW media/Farage's turf, where it's always a problem to crack down on, never an opportunity or necessity. A one-sided national conversation driven by fear, not facts. Ageing pop, low birthrates, shrinking workforce, tax burden increase.. silence.

James O’Brien@mrjamesob.bsky.social

The government’s abject surrender in the immigration conversation will not necessarily lose them votes. But it won’t win any either because a) for good or for ill, the small boats are the really emotive issue & b) people who simply resent immigrants will always favour Farage. He’s one of their own.

There seems to be a persistent belief in politics that despite the decline in trad. blue collar "working class", they're still treated as far more worthy than people of the middle & professional classes, with the latter treated w/ contempt. Despite them making up a massive part of the electorate.

Rob Ford@robfordmancs.bsky.social

Tl;dr - one lesson of blue wall 2024 results is that if you keep telling voters you dislike them and will ignore them, sooner or later they will believe you. Labour seem determined to ignore that lesson.

This man (& EUR leaders) can't face the brutal reality NATO is now essentially dead. Can anyone imagine if 🇷🇺 struck at Lithuania for eg. that the US would trigger art. 5 & put boots on the ground and fight? More likely Trump tweets "Terrible to see but RUS has been treated VERY badly by Lithuania!"

The people who told us it's a national scandal Starmer got handed some free spectacles & Reeves went to a free gig are seemingly fine with another politician's embezzlement of €millions of public funds.

Adam Bienkov@adambienkov.bsky.social

The thing about all these pieces complaining about Marine Le Pen's conviction is that not a single one of them bothers to explain why someone found guilty of embezzling millions of Euros from public funds should be allowed to get away with it

It's quite jarring with wall to wall Bernie & AOC coverage last week, tweets galore and then this week as a massive nat. security fuck-up occurs, students are being kidnapped off the streets thrown into detention facilities & Trump ends rights for union bargaining.. we have complete radio silence.

"Oh shit! We've completely fucked our trading relationship with our closest ally and they aren't backing down" See this is why you stand up to bullies, they hope to cow you into submission with their aggression but behind the bravado are insecure and afraid.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump drops the demeaning "governor" stuff and calls Carney by his correct title

My God the levels of cringeworthy deference Starmer keeps giving to that fascist oaf who is openly of siding with Putin is embarrassing. Like a nerd constantly giving a bully his lunch money hoping he doesn't give you another wedgie.
