gamers also having to contend with the sudden explosion in memory costs and not having graphics cards. truly, they have joined the ranks of the oppressed😔

Companies that produce AI technology that supposedly "goes rogue" (read: they purposefully misuse) will benefit, but common sense and normal ways of thinking of course won't. But yeah, I guess gamers will have to contend with this nonsense now too.

And for those who are not academics: heaving a pile of papers that haven’t gone through peer review and going “here, you sort this out for us and prove us wrong” isn’t scholarship. It’s a hurricane shitting on an earthquake and demanding the professionals come clean it up.

> I believe that AI can contribute positively in all of these directions as well; but it will require more imagination and ambition than the "Math 1.0" mindset of simply pointing one's favorite AI agent at some set of open problems and asking for a solution. lol

good luck with that; this is what the technology affords and what academic publishing seems structured to reward. i genuinely wish them the best of luck in trying to get the genie back into the bottle before their field is strip-mined to bedrock to juice the IPOs of the wettest guys imaginable

can't help but see this as another example of complexity being a wallpaper bubble where, whenever you push it down, it pops back up somewhere else

Basically AI allows software engineers to produce shitty code *faster* and in higher volumes which increases the amount time spent on code reviews and revisions nullifying the productivity gained from producing the code in the first place.

they're terrified that we'll realise billionaires are mostly water

Why is billionaire-owned media suddenly coming all at once with pieces against drinking fluids. What is this manufacturing consent for. Is it building toward something. Should I be afraid

Since LBC seem to have accidentally deleted James O'Brien's latest fascinating engagement with the problems of climate change (mass death, apocalypse, destruction) and its silver linings (barbecues, eating outside), here it is for posterity, retrieved from cache.

i see the grauniad breathlessly and credulously boosting yet another clankfic, this time about how Europe *must* invest more in 'AI' and data centres or be left to collapse as The Great Acceleration happens. absolutely cringeworthy. Wario Amodei sweating, furiously clanking one out under his desk

You are up to date.
