Got to admit I'm a bit in awe of @laurenleek.eu. Another wonderful piece of work.

I analysed 40 years of British laws and found that society was the footnote. Dirty rivers, absurd train fares, families fighting for support: all share the same flaw: governments optimise the wrong things. Could software engineering offer a fix? laurenleek.substack.com/p/theres-no-...

Cray-2 was the fastest computer ever built as of 1985, processing at 1.9 gigaflops, or 1.9 billion floating point operations per second (FLOPS) iPhone 17 processes at ~2,073 gigaflops, or 2 trillion FLOPS Cray-2 weighed >5,500 pounds, while the iPhone 17 weighs 6.24 ounces— >14,000 times lighter

So good. Tokenisation isn't bad, but it doesn't solve the ledger problem. For insts without this problem, maybe it makes sense in particular contexts. Like changing your cloud computing service provider.

Absent a failed auction/ proper panic, France’s debt service costs rise only slowly. Bond mkt pressure is chronic rather than acute, so competes with other chronic pressures (and likely trumped by those that become acute first).

BIG PRIZES for explaining why the US govt outspends all its European cousins who operate universal healthcare, and why Ireland and Japan hates its children.

Also thought chart 3 was a good one, where the red line is the US. Again, on the page you can hover your pointer over each line to see which country is which.
