DOJ in exile, anyone? This emerging organization bears strong family resemblance to a proposal by @joshtpm.bsky.social at @talkingpointsmemo.com. And not a moment too soon.

Kyle Griffin@kylegriffin1.bsky.social

A group of former federal prosecutors and human rights lawyers is coming together to investigate political corruption and law enforcement violence that it says is being ignored by the Trump DOJ. "The rule of law is on life support, but it's all of our responsibility to make sure it doesn't die."

A great deal has been written about the Republican financial advantage going into the midterm elections, but less about its origins. How did President Trump build a $400m+ campaign war chest? By turning over the federal government to the companies and individuals it is supposed to regulate.

Early this year, I visited Ingram, a TX town of ~1,900, to check out a tip. The area was starting to recover from its worst flood in a century. But as Latino workers drove to jobsites to help rebuild, the tipster said, a cop in a black Dodge Charger kept stopping them ... 🧵

This is the answer for sure. Most important tell is that Ramaswamy is not running this Acton commercial on social media. So he’s definitely targeting older MAGA voters who are mad at their kids.

Trump tells this chestnut again and again. It is also (shocker!) false. The Russian army advanced on roads the usual way in Feb 2022. What stopped them was a combo of Ukrainian resistance and Russian lack of preparation. www.euronews.com/2025/08/28/d...

Trump laments that Russia's generals were too incompetent to end Putin's war of aggression against Ukraine on the first day

Trump's story about Russian tanks getting stuck in the mud combines two favorite subjects: Military failure that avoids crediting Ukraine and summary execution by dictators. Seriously, listen to Trump gleefully speculating of the "stupid general" that "I doubt he's still with us".

Not only are the generals who led the failed invasion of Kyiv “still with us,” they got promotions and medals. Because that’s how dictators really operate. bsky.app/profile/chri...

7/ 'Alex Parker Returns' points out that the two generals most responsible for the failed advance on Kyiv weren't punished: "By the way, both degenerates, who really screwed up on all fronts, are alive. I'm talking about [Alexander] Chaiko and [Alexander] Lapin."

Consider how well listening to Donald Trump’s promises worked out for Iranian dissidents.

William B. Fuckley@opinionhaver.bsky.social

This story doesn’t break new ground, although it provides valuable context. Of course Elon ordered Starlink throttled. It’s his company. The question is who instructed him to do that, and the White House wants to cloak the answer in a fog of ambiguity.

But the WSJ story tiptoes around the obvious answer. Trump ordered the hit on Ukraine the same way a mob boss would: on a phone call with no witnesses. That’s why Musk is panicking now. And Trump is not bailing Musk out (yet), because he prefers plausible deniability.

In case the Ramaswamy campaign has trouble figuring out "what happened between Amy and her mother," they could read the court record documenting her stepfather's sexual assault. Her mother and stepfather skipped town to avoid being prosecuted!

There's a lot going on right now, but the ongoing overthrow of the Albanian government after selling itself to Jared & Ivanka might merit further attention.

BladeoftheSun@bladeofthes.bsky.social

The Supreme Court burns to the ground in Albania, Parliament and the Department of Education has been stormed, the Prime Minister is in hiding and the country is effectively in the hands of the rebels. Albania rejects blatant corruption and their country being sold.

I second this. An amazing and genuinely thoughtful movie about the impossibility of knowing anyone and the extreme measures artists (including con artists) take to obscure that truth.

The obstacle to accountability is the President's pardon power. Trump can be expected to announce wall-to-wall pardons for everyone in the chain of command: top to bottom, every agency, extending to outside actors. Perhaps it's time to start planning a constitutional amendment to abolish pardons.

The very first shipment of 300K tons of Russian diesel—carried by the tanker Minerva Zen, which left St. Petersburg on September 22—arrived on the US East Coast less than 24 hours after the deal was formally announced.

Trump is also no longer trying to conceal his desperate midterm play, which is to gaslight midwestern farmers into blaming Ukraine for the high diesel prices caused by his reckless decision to go to war with Iran.

Most Americans support Ukraine and understand that choking off Russian oil and gas earnings is the best way to end the Russian invasion of Ukrainian territory. Unfortunately, Donald Trump and his cronies do not seem to understand. I wonder why that is...

Kate from Kharkiv@kateinkharkiv.bsky.social

Thank you all for your support. This situation is heartbreaking for Ukrainians because every cent russia makes on diesel funds this war. Over here, that money isn't just an abstract concept, it causes devastating damage: more destroyed towns, a harder winter, and very real loss of life.

This is obviously false. Why would Trump have chosen the most prestigious and sought-after negotiators in the world, Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, if he weren’t serious about…about… Ugh, sorry guys I can’t keep up the gag anymore.

How can anybody be surprised that Trump makes a for the US meaningless Diesel deal with Putin to end sanctions on Russia? Have you not understood that Trump supports Russia against Ukraine, the West & the US? Few things are more obvious.

This oil deal is an incredible windfall for Putin. At one stroke, he gets the US to crush the oil sanctions regime and become an equity partner in Lukoil. Ukrainian drones that hit Russian refineries will be attacking business partners of the US government, untenable for any alliance.
