If you’re struggling what to make of the back and forth between #AI leaders announcing a slowdown, condemning a slowdown, claiming danger, saying there is none, look at what they aren’t saying as I did here: medium.com/@tomlynch102...

Learned from fossil fuel quickly - hype dystopian scenarios most find not plausible so most then slowly to think all threats are overblown. The Who were so wrong. We get fooled every single time.

“By centering the conversation around digital sentience and global catastrophe, AI leaders are turning an already complicated regulatory debate into an impossible moral panic.” www.axios.com/2026/10/24/a...

#BirdOfTheDay #LMNO Depending on which name you choose, this bird could cover the N or the M. A Northern Mockingbird. #birding #birds #birdphotography #nature #naturephotography

#BirdOfTheday #Reflection I enjoy the perfect mirror images of birds in dark, still water. But the ripples of this water gave such a distinct, abstract reflection that it became a favorite (I almost like the reflected reeds more than the wavy egret reflection).

Following the fossil fuel playbook, Big Tech is taking its propaganda to the schools. Kids in Data Center Alley get flag-making kits and an info card describing data centers' “positive impact” on the local economy. DC area high schools are offered data center field trips courtesy of Amazon.

The “conscious” AI debate is like other #AI debates: it is fought at the edges. We need serious debate about how a species that can’t even decide when our own lives begins can answer that question for machines in the future, when it is possible they deserve some agency. They do not now.

All anyone needs to know about the state of #Texas is that every citizen knows this is who Paxton is, and he still may win because the "family values" folks are lining up to vote for him.

🚨 WOW: WSJ reports Ken Paxton partied in a luxury Dubai high-rise with 2 FUGITIVES, Anosh Ahmed and Sameer Suhail, facing fed charges over an alleged $15 MILLION hospital embezzlement scheme — alongside his gf (not his wife). Ahmed donated $190K to Paxton, including $25K AFTER his indictment.

This is an important read about #AI and empowering citizens.

New #AIES paper w/ @benzevgreen.bsky.social & @tisjune.bsky.social - "Deconstructing AI Hype: A Playbook for Resistance"! Read here: shreyachowdhary.net/files/decons... We argue that AI hype is a problem not because it misdescribes AI, but because it facilitates AI entrenchment.

#BirdOfTheDay #Waders I’m hoping the waders don’t need to be wading in the photo. From @audubon.org’s Corkscrew swamp in the #Everglades, this Tri-colored Heron found a safe place to hunt in a pond full of alligators. #Birds #Birding #Birdwatching #birdphotography #naturephotography

#BirdOfTheDay #BlueWater A great egret, knee deep in blue water, flashing the mating green across its face as it goes fishing at DeKorte State Park in the Meadowlands, just across the river from #NYC. Great #birding spot. #birds #birdwatching Thx @atlanticbirding.bsky.social for doing the BotD!

The unmitigated gall is, unfortunately, unsurprising. Only he knows what the “some bad” actually is we’re supposed to accept. Only he knows what the “good” actually is. Only he decides that we should accept the unknown bad. Arrogant. Dangerous. Unacceptable. #AIEthics #ArtificialIntelligence

It’s a start…

I’ve been in marketing & research for my entire career. No amount of marketing can overcome a bad customer experience. But agencies are kept in business from companies trying. How many marketing impressions are needed to outweigh Zuck knowingly harming children for 15 years (as an example)?

#BirdOfTheDay Since I didn’t exactly follow the definition for #black&white the first time, here is a Yellow-crowned Night Heron flying away at DeKorte State Park in the #Meadowlands #NJ, just across the Hudson River from #NYC. Awesome #birding spot. #birds #birdphotography #NaturePhotography

For my #BirdOFTheDay, rather than a #black&white photo I am posting a Black-and-white Warbler taken just last week during the fall migration through #NYC. They are tiny & love to get deep into vines & brush so difficult to capture, but fun trying. #birds #birding #birdphotography #naturephotography

#bokehbirds #BirdOfTheDay Northern Cardinal up close, background greenery out of focus. #birds #birdphotography #birding #birdwatching

Since bokeh isn’t blur itself, rather, the quality or feeling the blur gives, I thought I’d mention that is pleasing to me about this blur is the way the shadow matches, giving compliment, while the softness heightens the very sharp crispness of the foreground. Your bokeh may take a different shape

How is anyone reading sourced stories about all the #AI firms are doing, all that AI models are doing and say “no oversight needed”?

Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

DoorDash spent $1.4M trying to stop Zohran Mamdani from becoming mayor. This week's historic $131.5M enforcement action against DoorDash for underpaying NYC delivery workers shows why. Yet another reminder that the only thing that can beat organized money is organized people.
