My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

I don’t know if this is a working class thing but I’m baffled that not everyone grew up in a turps house. I’ve had a bottle of turps under the sink for as long as I’ve had a sink, like my turps-using parents before me. Yet there are entire generations who have not known turps or its various uses.

I did recently confuse a young person by explaining the 70s/80s trend for hot oil fondues and the fun of getting to light the purple liquid from the big bottle of meths that lived under the sink next to the turps.

Waffle and Slang is the name of a trendy coffee-and-books-with-onsite-barber shop in Shoreditch that lasts six months before the wealthy parents who funded it pull the plug after discovering their son spent £15000 on a neon painting by Johnny Depp.

Big fan of this level of honesty about stupidity. I once worked with a woman who was adamant her brother could fly, because he had told her he could. When I attempted to counter this, she got nasty and said “my brother wouldn’t lie”. I know where I am with that sort of person.

A racist lady told a Nazi something and now Britain has a mercenary army made up of African migrants These assholes are stark raving mad and they actually vote

When I was a kid I had a tendency to claim “people say” before spouting a bit of bollocks to ‘prove’ whatever point I wanted to make. Eventually my mom said, “what people?” and that cured me.

When the kids were younger we had to make sure they were fast enough sleep not to be woken by Clock Man’s cursing when he got to the oven.

It’s exciting to wake up in the morning to bloodied footprints in the garden and a trail of cogs. “The Clock Man’s been!” I exclaim to the children as we examine the clocks for proof. And indeed, he has given back the stolen hour because we have been so Good.

Original factory spec is black seats. Thoughts? If we want accuracy could go with a tan leather or a red leather, or throw canon out of the window and have any seat colour we please.

Shoutout if you’re middle person making a great oblique joke then third person comes along and makes explicit what was implicit, and gets the bigger laugh

I think it does an amazing job of showing two of the many facets of Greater Bham. Digbeth is the progressive liberal arts centre near-divorced from its industrial roots, while Smethwick is a resource-starved community struggling to keep its identity. Wrestling is the same and different in each.

I don’t know their names but big shoutout to the people brave enough to first challenge this in the room. I know what it takes and odds are they paid some price for it.

Culturally, we're talking about an institution where until 2015, academics were still drinking from a cup made from a skull that was rumoured to belong to an enslaved Caribbean woman.

Coincidentally I watched the video of John Noakes cleaning Nelson’s column a couple of weeks ago, and it’s very entertaining indeed youtu.be/tMrB_3wq2ak?...

It's been a gradual process. No one noticed Nelson's column until John Noakes cleaned it in 1977, then people noticed it was in the middle of a roundabout

I’ve shot several pro wrestling nights now, steep learning curve (lighting challenges, learning to anticipate the moves, getting out the way quick enough so I don’t get squished) but about as much fun as I’ve ever had with a camera.

Put a box under your laptop, and look at the camera. Thank me later. (That's literally the only difference between these pictures, taken 30 seconds apart in identical lighting)

we had an actual nazi bar in the tc area and tbh this is exactly how that went "we're all leaving the nazi bar" "oh shit nobody else got 5 dollar double-pints in a glass boot tho" "ok i guess the nazi bar is ok" for years until they did some extra-bonus nazi-ish shit

This is why it needs external enforcement. A minority are just oblivious idiots but often, playing a phone out loud is a deliberate act of social aggression. It’s not advisable to try and suppress someone advertising their dominance over a shared space.

One of the reasons I'm so anti-phone noise in public is just this. I'm a bloke, but a significant minority of the time me asking politely is met with violent threats. Sorry you got shut down like that, it's not acceptable.

We both got off at the same stop, I filmed him until he went a different way. Then I got on the escalator and took an angry selfie with this stupid pea creature in the background.
