Indigenous activists face prosecution, intimidation & murder every day as they stand up to multinational corporations destroying their rivers & land. That's why we need a strong UN Business & Human Rights Treaty, and why the Irish Govt, as a member of the UN Human Rights Council, must take action.

It was an honour to welcome our Guatemalan partners to Ireland to discuss this in Leinster House. They've also visited the UN to take part in crucial treaty negotiations. They face constant threats from mining companies & other large corporations as they defend their human rights and their homes.

Activists like Margarita and Lisbeth deserve to have their voices heard, and they deserve justice and support. The Irish Government can go a long way in providing this!

Another sign that the UK, despite its clear historic responsibilities and desire to be seen to show global leadership, lacks the ambition to tackle the climate crisis. If the UK Govt want to start being taken seriously in relation to the climate crisis, they need to start acting like it.

It is my great honour to be here at the United Nations in Geneva representing @trocaire.bsky.social and supporting such couragenous human rights defenders as Udiel in advocating for a strong #BindingTreaty on #BusinessandHumanRights.

The UN Binding Treaty on Business and Human Rights will ensure that transnational companies do not abuse human rights in the places where they work, and are held accountable if they do. That's why it's so important we get it right! Hear from one of our partners below on why this treaty is so vital

COPAE work with communities that still suffer the social and environmental impacts of the polluting Marlin gold mine while they now face new threats to their rights and livelihoods in the form of hydroelectric projects.

Guatemala is one of the most dangerous places in the world to be a human rights defender, with the country experiencing a five-fold increase in killings of land and environmental defenders in 2024.

'The Irish draft included a cut of 17% from the Global Europe fund compared to the European Commission’s original proposal. Global Europe covers all the EU’s spending on international development and cooperation.' At a time of increased conflict and the climate crisis, aid cuts are devastating!

We march today in solidarity, for justice & for action! Economic pressure works. That is why the EU must suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement. The Irish Government has a pivotal role in pushing this forward as they currently hold the EU Presidency. There can be no excuses. Enough is enough!

Ahead of Saturday's National Palestine Demo, Dr. Yasser from our partner Gaza Community Mental Health Programme has a message for the people of Ireland. 'It reaches people in Gaza, and it tells us that our case is not forgotten.' We will not forget! Let's march together, 1pm, Garden of Remembrance

This Saturday, join us at 1pm at the Garden of Remembrance in Dublin. Let's show the Palestinian people that they will not be forgotten, and that we will not let the Israeli Government continue to get away with total impunity as they continue their genocide. Let's unite and stand up for justice💪

🎥With the launch of our new climate justice documentary 'End Fossil Power' fast approaching, it was fantastic to welcome Leon Diop of Black and Irish to the studio to record the narration. Stay tuned to our social channels for where you can catch the documentary in the weeks and months ahead!

At a time when global instability is escalating and poverty is increasing, the announcement in today’s budget of a marginal increase in official development assistance (ODA) spending falls short of what is required to meet the growing needs of people in some of the world’s most fragile countries.

As others turn away from their obligations to international development, it's welcome that the Irish Govt has announced an increased of €14 million in the budget. However, in the face of devastating climate impacts, protracted conflict & humanitarian crises we had hoped for a meaningful increase.

🎥Our new documentary, 'End Fossil Power' is releasing soon. The fossil fuel industry is out of control and is at the heart of the climate crisis. Communities in the poorest parts of the world are bearing the brunt as climate related disasters hit. But a growing global movement is emerging...

Meet Ma Win, in Tanintharyi Region, Myanmar. Like many, her household relied on agriculture for income. As conflict spread across Myanmar, this became near impossible. Through an MHF funded project, Ma Win received emergency cash assistance. Read her story: www.trocaire.org/news/holding...

'They're at the centre of climate negotiations internationally, but at the same time, they're trying to introduce new fossil fuel infrastructure.' You might've seen the Stop Climate Chaos Climate Hypocrisy stunt, but here's the WHY behind it! 💪Join us on 14 Nov as we march to End Fossil Power

'What I thought was a doll, was a child.' We'd the privilege of sitting down with Dr. Yasser Abu Jamei, Director of Trócaire partner Gaza Community Mental Health Programme, recently, where he shared this heartbreaking story, which also highlights how vital mental health support is for people there.

Mental health support in Gaza is vitally important as a part of the humanitarian response there. For children and families, experiencing a genocide, which is still ongoing, on a daily basis brings unimaginable trauma.

Ireland found GUILTY at Climate Court 👩‍⚖️⚖️👨🏻‍⚖️ Building new fossil fuel infrastructure instead of phasing it out. Guilty❌ Putting profits of Big Tech ahead of our future. Guilty❌ Allowing fossil fuel companies to make record profits while households face soaring energy bills. Guilty❌

Over 1.62 million lives have been changed thanks to your support in the last year! Whether it's through emergency response, supporting women & girls, helping communities respond & adapt to the climate crisis or standing up for human rights defenders, your generosity has changed and saved lives.

Ireland found GUILTY of climate hypocrisy! Ireland claims itself as a climate leader internationally, but at home continues to expand fossil fuel infrastructure such as LNG

'The situation is critical' Our team in Bunia, at the epicentre of the Ebola outbreak in DR Congo, is working with local partners and communities around the clock to stop the spread and save lives.

'Who wouldn't be scared?' We had the privilege of speaking to Dr. Yasser Abu Jamei, Director of Trócaire partner Gaza Community Mental Health Programme.

'It's not just a run, it's a lifeline'🏃 🏅A huge congratulations to Trócaire's Claire Kelly and Mark McMahon who took on the Belfast City Half Marathon over the weekend, raising vital funds to save and change lives around the world!

Fracking was banned in Ireland in 2017 because of its detrimental effects on human health & the environment, but now the Government are considering importing fracked gas? In addition to methane emissions, fracking has been proven to cause increases in cancers, and contaminating the water supply.

For years, Trócaire and the people of Northern Ireland have been demanding stronger action from the UK Government in relation to Palestine. Today is a welcome step towards this, but the measures must go further so that they are in line with the International Court of Justice's Advisory Opinion.

"When clashes intensified in Kayin State, in south-east Myanmar, Aye Minyt* and her family had to flee their home in the small rural village of Pan Aung. The family left only with the clothes they were wearing and a small amount of food and sought safety in the forest." *Names changed

With support from Myanmar Humanitarian Fund, we're working together with our local partners to provide humanitarian assistance to displaced families in Kayin State, helping vulnerable households in hard-to-reach areas meet urgent food, shelter & hygiene needs while maintaining dignity & flexibility.

In yesterday's Irish Times, Trócaire CEO Seán Farrell wrote about how Ireland's EU Presidency is a unique opportunity to use our influence to place poverty, inequality & human rights at the centre of the development agenda, and counteract devastating global aid cuts. Read the full letter below ⬇️

With Irish Aid support, Gabay Yussuf in Somalia is creating more stability & increasing food production in her community. Alongside our partner NAPAD, we've provided drought resistant seeds, tools & agroecology training so communities are more resilient to extreme weather caused by climate change.

Despite aid cuts decimating programmes in recent years, Irish Aid buck the trend, valuing the vital work done by organisations such as ours around the world. As a result, we've been able to support the most vulnerable communities around the world as they face the world's worst humanitarian crises.

‘We live in fear. People are living in fear of everyone. We’re afraid of physical contact; people are isolating in their homes.’ Abbey Chrysante, Justice and Peace Coordinator with Caritas Bunia in DR Congo discusses the devastating impacts of the Ebola outbreak.

The escalation in recent weeks of settler violence in the West Bank has been horrific, supported by the Israeli Government. It is ethnic cleansing. Even the US Ambassador has called the violence in Qusra 'terror attacks'. Keep calling out the violence & injustice faced by the people of Palestine!
