And Sheilah Kirui with a really cool demonstration on caching models for cost and latency savings! Very critical when you're hosting your own GPUs.

Day 2 let's go! Started strong with @angiejones.tech's fantastic talk around the importance of skills. I took away some great tips around not relying on general model knowledge and leveraging security scans before leveraging any third party skills!

Loved this discussion with Erika! As the stack overflow survey showed that AI hasn’t fixed unclear and changing priorities. Let us know how you handle changing priorities!

You planned for one project. On Friday, the priorities changed. Erika and Bethany discuss communication, parking unfinished work, and when disagree and commit actually helps. Episode 82 of Overcommitted is out now: Honest Answers: When Priorities Change.

Corporate Slack SEO tips: - send a message during or right after a meeting where you know your audience is in, they’ll likely be checking slack before working on something else - rage bait by proposing a potentially wrong answer to your question - don’t @here, it will just annoy people

@roxyrodbeck.bsky.social is SO cool! I had such a great time chatting with her and @brittanyellich.com on her path to being a software developer and trolling the internet (just a little, as a treat)

New episode! Roxy Rodriguez-Becker on going from middle school math teacher to developer community manager: studying at 4AM, treating networking as a muscle you build, and shipping a tube feed tracker that real families rely on. 🎙️

I’ve been on a continuous mission to automate my brag docs for the past 4 years. I’m super happy with my current setup which is an automated skill that collects my achievements across multiple platforms and then compares them to the skills of a staff engineer.

The real benefit is using it for feedback and understand what I might be missing. It’s given me some genuinely good guidance for my blind spots that I otherwise might not have realized!

Systems thinking strikes again!! I don’t think I’ve ever read a more relevant book than Thinking In Systems.

New episode! Erika finally read "How Complex Systems Fail" and she and Bethany dig into normal vs catastrophic failure, whether root cause analysis actually works, hindsight bias in postmortems, and keeping the humans on call from burning out. 🎙️

question for anyone using coding agents day to day for work: what do you ACTUALLY do while it's running? i keep trying to context switch into other work and failing

If you have to remind the reader what the acronym means every time you use it then it’s probably not a good acronym.

So grateful for the opportunity to chat with Thomas and pick his brain as he sets on a new venture! Give it a listen and let us know your thoughts!

🎙️ Episode 30: @ashtom.bsky.social (former @github.com CEO) drops knowledge bombs on learning, trends & leveling up as a dev. This conversation is 🔥 Don't miss it: open.spotify.com/episode/2IBZ... @brittanyellich.com @trustyduck.bsky.social @eggyhead-dev.bsky.social

I know I say this about all of them but this was such an interesting conversation! Definitely gave me a lot to think about, hope others feel the same!

Wow, The Rehearsal season 2 is a masterclass in interpersonal conflicts where power dynamics are at play. So interesting to learn about the aviation side of things, but it also made me reflect on how I handle conflict!

We came home last night to a smoke alarm chirping - no big deal we thought! Then we realized it wasn’t coming from any of our smoke alarms… Current thought is that the built in the previous owners installed in the laundry room (5+ years ago) has a smoke detector behind it. Send help for my sanity.

We’ve spent at least 2 hours standing underneath all our smoke detectors to confirm at this point and none of our neighbors have a smoke detector in their laundry room so I feel like I’m losing my mind 😂

UPDATE: We cleaned up for contractors and found a smoke detector we had disconnected a few months ago 🤦‍♀️ This is a life lesson that when something seems like a dumb problem it probably has a dumb solution!
