20 years ago today, I chanced upon increased activity of Orionids. I had taken about 130 of these 1-minute exposures between 01:35-04:35 GMT+3 on 21st October 2006. This view is a composite of 18 shots containing 18 Orionids, one more possible Orionid and a sporadic meteor. apod.com/en/ap061023....

Now I have a minor planet. It was discovered by Ovidiu Vaduvescu using images by Euronear Project taken at Roque de los Muchachos, La Palma, Spain. This is a 2.2-km wide asteroid, revolving around the Sun every 5.62 years, at an average distance of 470 million km.🗿🙂 www.wgsbn-iau.org/files/Bullet...
APOD 82 Retrograde Neptune & Saturn 2025-6 apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap260506.html vimeo.com/1177973763 I photographed Neptune and Saturn every 6 to 11 days between 9th May 2025 and 25th February 2026 while both planets traced their retrograde loops.
APOD 81 & 53 2 Total Lunar eclipses of Saros 133 apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap26030... I had photographed 21st February 2008 eclipse from Kaş, Turkey, whereas Petr Horalek shot the pictures of 3rd March 2026 eclipse from Kitt Peak, Arizona.
APOD 80 Twilight With Moon and Planets antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap26022... Saturn, Mercury, Venus and the Moon shine through bright twilight in the evening of 19th February 2026, as seen from Kirazlı village on the road between Bursa and Uludağ NP.

APOD 79 2 Worlds, 2 Analemmas apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap25062... The Martian analemma was presented by @elakdawalla.bsky.social here: www.planetary.org/articles/a-m... ...Meanwhile, I had put together the Earth version while I was working in Baku, Azerbaijan: vimeo.com/195174652
APOD 78 Retrograde Mars 2024-5 apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap25053... vimeo.com/1085645909 I photographed Mars every 5 to 9 days between 19th September 2024 and 18th May 2025, while the red planet traced its retrograde loop in Gemini and Cancer.
@nocontexttrek1.bsky.social I reckon he will be weaving a new one in no time.😏 PS. This is a deserted M-class planet in a dark matter nebula, so we could say, like in a day or two.
@daghanirak.com daha yüksek irtifadaki kayak merkezlerini kullanmaları gerekecek. Böyle hoşaf gibi karda ve sıcak havada sakatlık riski de artıyor.
@nocontexttrek1.bsky.social Quark delivers his inner Edwin Starr; in case you may want to use these some time in the future.😉🖖 www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztZI...
Here is a Best 9 comet selection, as seen by SOHO LASCO C3.☄️ PS. Comets NEAT and Bradfield were suggested by @sungrazercomets.bsky.social in October 2024.
APOD 77 5 comets from SOHO apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap24101... A selection of 5 comets, as seen by SOHO Lasco C3 coronagraph. This has been the first time my name appears with an APOD, which I did not actually photograph.
APOD 76 Mars, Uranus, Pleiades apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap24080... I photographed Mars for 16 days between 12-27 July 2024, as it passed by Pleiades, and also greenish Uranus which is moving much slower in the sky. I started photography at Mt. Sandras in Denizli, then completed imaging in Bursa, Turkey
APOD 75 Solstice Moon apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap24062... Full Moon of 21-22 June 2024 occurred within 28 hours of the solstice. I set up a camera at my rooftop in Bursa, Turkey to photograph the Moon every 10 minutes, which stayed less than 7 hours in the sky and rose only 22 degrees at local midnight.
This 29th February marks my 32nd year as an active amateur astronomer and night sky photographer, according to my logs. Back then, I was a young guy looking at the southern sky in the evening and trying to photograph it. This picture from 29th February 2004 catches Jupiter at a spot similar to 1992.
Betelgeuse eclipsed by asteroid 319 Leona. twanight.org/gallery/bete... When Leona crossed Betelgeuse, the red giant dimmed indeed to magnitude +2.5, but did not disappear. Apparently this was some kind of an annular eclipse, as Leona could not cover Betelgeuse completely.
@philplait.bsky.social I just read the fresh newsletter. One tiny bit of note, Mars' next conjunction is in January 2026, next opposition is in January 2025. 😉🖖

In his newsletter, @philplait.bsky.social says he did two of these. (Not necessarily photographing it, but, yeah.😉) So, kudos.💫🖖 badastronomy.substack.com/p/a-unique-a... staging.bsky.app/profile/tunc...
APOD 73 Eclipse over Monument Valley 😎🌚🌞 antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap23100... I had taken this photograph of the annular Solar eclipse of 20th May 2012 over the iconic buttes of Monument Valley. Remarkably, the annular Solar eclipse of 14th October 2023 will also be visible from the same place.

Phil, if you somehow end up in Turkey, we have them in Lake Salda, too. PS. I did go to WA earlier this year, to check out the cousins of the guys in this lake. (And an eclipse.😉) https://staging.bsky.app/profile/philplait.bsky.social/post/3k2juf7ynby2n

I've been photographing the night sky just over a year; but that's a Saturn year. 😉 Whose first iteration looks like this: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap220819.html Then, I went on to produce this version... https://www.flickr.com/photos/ttezel/52721001386
