Tennessee farmer's fuel bill was $20,000 for just 2 weeks: "I wish they could see what it costs us to plant a crop and what we are getting paid... A farmer doesn't like a handout. He would rather have a fair market."

“'You Can See Everything' is a hilarious, thrilling, fascinating, beautiful piece of art. What it certainly is not is a documentary, and it’s dangerous to pretend that it is,” writes Theranos whistleblower Tyler Shultz. https://bit.ly/4Bk2nDJ

$2M for a city program just feels like it’s being set up to fail! with staffing and admin costs, fleet, insurance, and other expenses, even before dispatch issues - was HOPE just three people with a landline and a bicycle?

Amy Sundberg@amysundberg.bsky.social

The HOPE team is Tacoma's version of Seattle's CARE team and it might be cut even though it only costs $2M per year. Sounds like it, like CARE, has struggled with dispatch protocols to be independent from the police. Unfortunately the article doesn't share Tacoma police's budget $.

been posting a lot today because i’m sitting at home waiting for sandy shettler to email me action steps no word yet

this is why before i block i also respond with an unhinged threat

it's cool that you can send "STOP" to instantly block an automated political fundraising text message so they have to text you from a different number five minutes later

fox news producers back in the studio:

this answer about what issues matter to him from a college student waiting in line at the Trump rally wasn't what the Fox correspondent expected to hear. She moved on with swiftness

that said, the most offensive part of this may be "the firehose", which purports to share "what happened in committee, before the final vote." this is *exactly why the seattle channel broadcasts committee meetings* and *why committee meetings agendas/agenda packets are available online*

yes, seafor exists as a campaign finance organization, but it also exists to privatize a public service - to act as a middleman between free, publicly accessible information provided by the city of seattle and the public

i actually think this chart is approximately useless in many ways, among them: self-reporting social media use is a losing exercise, and also the window for this poll is 30(!) days. but it does give a sense of what platforms are used most, and meta seems to have a deathlock on the city!

i could nitpick at this all day, i think sara nelson and tanya woo and erik nielsen and dan mcgrady (the governors of seafor) are all very stupid and all of them have potentially committed at least one campaign finance violation already and i look forward to many more in the near future

i also think nelson et al.'s insistence that social media is dominating the narrative is vv strange, especially given the platforms she names - here's data from nielsen (which i found on THE SEATTLE TIMES, SARA) which may be of use:

i'm struck by the use of "rapid response" in the first section, since the only real uses of that term (that i'm aware of) are for designated emergency teams or for a specific X account, which launched in 2025. peak usage was actually may 2023, per google trends:

it’s not just that yglesias is morally bankrupt (he is) or that his RX for dems treats vulnerable people like pawns (it does) and politics writ large as a game (it does) but also that he’s exactly wrong, opposition to ICE has driven polling gains for democrats

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

for a company whose motto (former motto, anyway) had to do with not being evil it is hard to wrap my head around how much damage google/alphabet has enabled by letting ding dongs like nick shirley, the paul brothers, etc. monetize this kind of behavior

turtlyBOOrtly@turtlyburtly.bsky.social

yes matt as much as i find the times to be lacking sometimes too they’re not following up on this because racism aside it’s demonstrably not true and your brain is made of goo

More than half of the satellites in space right now were made here in Washington state. We just had our strongest quarter — maybe ever — for venture capital investment in startups with the space economy as a major driver. Great to be at the Seattle Space Superiority Summit yesterday...

pretty sure eliminating historic preservation boards from the city would be an unqualified positive there are still state and federal systems in place if something is actually *historic* but sometimes this shit is just obstructionism
