I'm always amazed that Portland Police Bureau uses Survey Monkey to gather public comments for review of directives and other procedures, including for their proposed update to policy for trials of new tools and tech. Like, really? Anyway, they're accepting comments on this through Oct 31.

you don't hate rapid response enough this afternoon 2 large rrbc trucks were driving on the 205 bike path, where they attempted to run down my friend, a homeless veteran, before chasing him on foot - 8 of them! luckily i found him not long after he escaped, unscathed... but he is definitely NOT ok

Obviously the people contracted by The City of Portland to enforce its cruel campsite removal policy should not be violently attacking people living in tents - yet today, a man who was resting alone on the bike path, minding his own business & NOT camping illegally, was violently attacked by RRBC?!

An enormous amount of bullshit could have been stopped years and years ago by simply enforcing militia laws against patriot prayer and the piss boys. Every single one of them should have been in the clink since at least 2017

this summer, i started a mutual aid side project: helping our unhoused neighbors retrieve their property stolen by rapid response. "stolen" is not hyperbole. when someone takes something that doesn't belong to them & doesn't return it, we call that stealing www.propublica.org/article/home...

Going to the Metro Central Waste transfer station (the dump) on a day when rapid response came in was one of the most heartbreaking things I have seen. People’s lives: photos, books, clothes, medicines just being tossed into the landfill pile. Just devastating to see.

i just listened; the noise of busy afternoon traffic faded away, replaced by waves of pure emotion, alternating between sobs of grief and wails of seething rage - those heartbreaking sounds said everything that needed to be said this was supposed to be the end of this thread, but alas 16/

the next morning, i saw several ppb cruisers & a couple of rapid response trucks at her camp. they showed up, without notice, and they took EVERYTHING she & her husband were left with nothing, except for the clothes they were wearing (btw, her husband is in a wheelchair) fuck rapid response 17/

nobody at the warehouse expressed sympathy or admitted making a mistake - instead, they cranked up the gaslighting and when she started to complain, the dude who 'only works at the warehouse' didn't want to hear any complaints, so he shut the loading bay door in her face 14/

and that was that - there was nothing more that could be done. it was time to head back to her camp as soon as started my car, she began to cry for the next 10-15 minutes, during the short drive back to her camp, I spoke very little - there was nothing more for me to say 15/

i'd seen her camp before it got swept - it had a whole helluva lot more stuff than what was in those 2 bags. rapid said most of it got black-bagged - aka considered "garbage" with no obvious use (i think the black bags also surreptitiously separate valuables to be kept or sold by employees) 12/

that's the caveat - they don't have to store what they consider garbage. who determines what is disposable & what isn't, is at the discretion of rapid response this woman had a whole bunch of art supplies... and medical supplies... all gone. vanished. it might as well have never existed 13/

my second run of the day didn't go well either. even though we didn't come back empty handed, it was somehow worse... whenever rapid clears a camp & steals everything they can get their grubby little hands on, a clock starts ticking - after 30 days, time is up 10/

people have 30 days to retrieve their stolen property from the warehouse - at least that's what people are told... but it's a goddamn lie i took a woman down to the warehouse to retrieve the stuff rapid stole last Monday - 8 days prior. this is all they gave us: two bags... and nothing else 11/

it was disappointing, but there really wasn't anything we could do at this point. if you can't prove what was taken because there's no record of it being taken, you can't retrieve it. if you know they took something from you, but they say it isn't there, it might as well have never even existed 8/

one thing a veteran in their 60s ought to have, is the wisdom of knowing when to choose a battle - this was not a battle we could win. we had no choice but to return to the old couple's tent empty handed & dejected. shaking his head, he delivered the bad news to his partner, "we lost everything" 9/

tuesday i went on two retrieval runs. the first was for a couple in their 60s. some of the stuff they wanted to get back was outside the 30 day retrieval window & we didn't expect it to be there - but they'd been swept 3 different times - surely some of their stuff would still retrievable... 6/

this recent local history adds important context for my mutual aid side project, 'stolen property retrieval' (although, 'acts of kindness & futility: an uphill battle against the cruel poverty policies enabling capitalism, a pyramid scheme death cult' would be more apt, it is a mouthful) 5/

i don't always angrily shout, "hey fuck you lady! goddamn nimby bitch!" at little old ladies from across the street - but if they are thanking rapid response for making the lives of our unhoused neighbors more difficult than necessary like a goddamn nimby bitch, then it is my duty to act accordingly
