reported on something that was really difficult for a lot of people for a lot of different reasons in a lot of different ways.

Back in May, Double Fine employees petitioned for a union. Two weeks later, that petition was withdrawn. What happened? https://kotaku.com/inside-the-failed-fight-to-unionize-one-of-gamings-most-idealized-studios-2000742755

Really not sure I'm feeling The Duskbloods network test. Even setting aside the input lag, it doesn't seem to have a lot of what I like in FromSoftware games.

I do wanna say that I was mostly responding to not finding Vampire Survivors, or games of that ilk, to be very fun *because* of the automation. I wouldn't personally make my argument the way the author does, but I do think this is a design trend worth interrogating.

Play what you want, but this is basically why I can spend 500 hours playing Diablo but get bored after an hour in Vampire Survivors. I like the action in an action RPG!

It bugs me when people reduce loot-based action RPGs like Diablo or Path of Exile into "gambling simulators" because my favorite parts don't really involve the loot itself. Vampire Survivors is not that either, but automating the action and focusing on the progression is *not* for me personally.

I think arguing these games are shallow time sinks is the wrong way to go about it though. I'd rather talk about the ways progression and anticipation drives a lot of popular game loops.
