TypeScript is JavaScript with types and type-checking. Compiles down to JavaScript, runs where JavaScript runs.

We know people will still need TS 6 for API usage. That's why there's a new `@typescript/typescript6` package that provides - the TypeScript 6 API - a separate `tsc6` binary Install it side-by-side with TypeScript 7, and don't worry about conflicts with `tsc`.

Under both `--watch` and in the editor, TypeScript 7 also now periodically releases unused type-checking state after enough idle time. For bigger projects, this should help reduce memory usage after peaking.

TypeScript 7 also brings parallelism with new 🧪 experimental 🧪 flags to tweak it. `--checkers` controls the number of type-checking workers, while `--builders` controls concurrent project builds. Use more on powerful machines, or scale down to fewer to control memory usage.

With this new version, TypeScript officially supports the language server protocol (LSP). So just pick your favorite editor and enjoy the speed improvements!

TypeScript 7 also ships a new `--watch` mode based on a Go port of Parcel's watcher. This brings more efficient and reliable file watching to TypeScript users across platforms. If you tried earlier versions of TS7, you can expect way less CPU usage on idle with `--watch`.

TypeScript 7 has all the editor features you love, like auto-imports, find-all-references, expandable hovers, inlay hints, code lenses, linked editing, semantic highlighting, import sorting, and more. They're just a lot faster now.

The 10x is real for many projects, and the speed improvements make a huge difference for teams at scale. TypeScript 7 drops time in CI, and minimizes delays in editors like VS & VS Code. That makes every part of the developer inner loop feel snappy.

The new codebase has been battle-tested by many teams (and entire companies) using it in production for over a year now. In fact, in the editor TypeScript 7 is *more* stable than TypeScript 6, with fewer crashes and lower memory usage.

In case you missed it, TypeScript 7 is a complete 10x faster version of the compiler & language server. It's a full port to parallelized native code. It runs faster, uses less memory, and is more stable than ever before.

For teams moving gradually, `tsc` from TypeScript 7 can run side-by-side with the `tsc6` executable & API from TypeScript 6 using the new `@typescript/typescript6` package.

Not yet mentioned in the blog post: TypeScript 7.0 will release unused type-checkers in the editor after enough idle time. For bigger projects, this should help reduce memory usage after peaking.

Speaking of which: TypeScript 7 also brings more parallelism to builds. ℹ️ Some tips ℹ️ `--checkers` controls the number of type-checking workers, while `--builders` controls parallel project-reference builds. Use more on powerful machines, or scale down to fewer to control memory usage.

The rebuilt `--watch` mode is powered by a Go port of Parcel's watcher, giving TypeScript 7 efficient, stable cross-platform file watching. Expect much less CPU usage on idle.

Editor support has come a long way since we first debuted: auto-imports, expandable hovers, inlay hints, code lenses, JSX linked editing, semantic highlighting, sort imports, remove unused imports, and more are now available.

What's new in the RC since the beta? A couple of things, but worth calling out are - A rebuilt `--watch` mode - Stability improvements across the board - New ported editor features - Strategies for using less memory in editors

It's the first Monday of 2026! Awful, we know. But have you tried out TypeScript's native previews, or do you hate when your editor and builds are faster?
