In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

My immediate concern here is that the Trump administration will back this likely effort to attempt a coup, rhetorically if not materially. It would hardly be the first shameful thing the United States has down to our neighbors to the south, but it would be a very shameful thing indeed.

Flávio Bolsonaro refuses to concede after losing Brazil's presidential runoff to Lula. "It is impossible to acknowledge the election results. We will ask for the elections to be annulled."

this is total gobbledygook? the process to decide who should be certified as the winner is the election, and there is no federal law that says the courts get to decide who that is.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Blanche on CBS says his suit against Alaska is "asking the court to step in where the Alaska Supreme Court didn't, which is to look at federal law and if necessary to allow a process for Alaska to decide who should be certified as the winner." (So, the voters won't get to decide. Got it.)

This is quite telling. Somehow I expect everyone in mid level & junior positions to be thrown under the bus at the last minute though, because, well, that’s been his MO his whole life.

Housing affordability has shifted dramatically worldwide. In 1985 a home in the US took 3.7 years of full-time pay to buy. Now you pay 6.4x. Meanwhile, Hong Kong remains the least affordable at over 20 years. Source: buff.ly/Aerd2IV

US imports from Russia rose 24% in 2025 to over $4 billion. Exports dropped to under $600 million (making imports 6.8x higher by value). Over 90% of those imports came down to just three categories: fertilizers, inorganic chemicals, and precious metals. Source: buff.ly/DxV45fJ

you can't be serious. This reads Meta/Facebook/Insta is looking to grant itself the rights to scrape websites across the open web - and train Meta's AI - if a company after Oct 30, 2026 uses Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or other Meta services. So every biz. Read that again. Outrageous. 1/5

This is the biggest and richest metro in the country. We have $ for essential services. What we don’t have are competent local government to administer these services without hemorrhaging $ on deals that would make Tammany hall blush. (Ps this is why I didn’t stay in ems. It’s not worth it.)

Ems assumed the bulk of the emergency call load. If you call 911 for an emergency, odds are it’s a medical emergency. And when you call, you expect an ambulance bc ITS AN EMERGENCY. Meanwhile fdny cobbled together non-solutions that predicate saving fire suppression pay scales above all else.

Having a fire engine full of guys who are barely trained in cpr doesn’t help anyone. Sure, they can show up and BREAK IN, but aside from entry, they’re largely useless on scene. And they can never transport a patient without an ambulance. CFR or not, fire is not a replacement for EMS.

A town in Chile did this. It was quite spectacular. They just had regular townspeople answer questions & made a funny little tv advert out of it. I’m sure someone can apply that to an actual service asking people who actually know what they’re talking about on more…mainstream matters…

Funny thought experiment: Tech monopolies have spent about $1 trillion on AI development so far. How good of a chatbot could we have built for $1 trillion by just employing smart people to answer any question people might reasonably ask and collecting all the answers in a big lookup table?

The amalgamation of myriad separate agencies focused on things like community resilience & disaster preparedness & recovery into DHS was always an historic mistake that redirected badly needed $ into a bloated, contractor-friendly police state behemoth that flushes cash with wild abandon.

Call it the “Obama already killed bin Laden” act and say anyone who voted against it hates Da Troops.

Your takeaway from the Israeli statement should be to remember that the 3.4 million Palestinians of the West Bank live under a permanent and unaccountable military-security state that has existed for nearly sixty years, and that every major political party in Israel is committed to maintaining it.

Brad Lander@bradlander.bsky.social

The Israeli Foreign Ministry is lying. No coordination was required, and we were never told that it was. We were not in a restricted security area. We did not pass any checkpoints.
