The scandal of an overpaid Principal at Edinburgh University setting in motion a "vampiric" programme of job cuts gets even worse. Investigative reporting from the journalists of The Ferret highlights Principal Peter Mathieson's murky second job: www.theferret.scot/peter-mathie...

theferret.scotDeparting Edinburgh uni boss says he’s committed to the job – but still won’t say what his second role paysAs staff at Scotland’s largest university continue strikes over sweeping cuts, their boss still won’t say what his second job pays on top of his £425,000 salary.

It's Day 22 of the UCU workers' strike against massive job cuts and deteriorating conditions at Edinburgh University. The Principal refuses to talk while earning almost half a million pounds. His successor is being prepared with similar pro-corporate anti-worker views. We organise and we fight on.

Organising and hard graft is spot on! Get yourself geared up for Nov 20th!

It's Day 21 of the UCU workers' strike at Edinburgh University. Management have sailed our university into a financial iceberg. The Principal is stepping down. But the corporate-oriented university court will appoint another corporate stooge, similar to rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

UCU is a trans-inclusive union. It has watched with mounting fear the dehumanization of trans people over the past decade by (1) the media, (2) the political class, (3) anti-trans lobby groups, with the accompanying stripping of trans people's rights. The Labour Government's complicity is shameful.

Jenny Wren@pintmoss.bsky.social

In a way it's enlightening to see this MP objecting to the presence of a trans person on a *mixed* emergency ward where there are presumably also cis men present. An example of how trans women are often presented as being uniquely dangerous or icky and the goal is to push us out of everywhere.

Completely agree with Sophia, the number of gifted academics forced to leave academia over this manufactured deficit by senior management is a scandal. The University of Edinburgh is a charity purposed for the social good, not some ruthless corporation designed to enrich those at the top.

Sophia Woodman@sophisteria.bsky.social

UoE senior managers are ignoring their responsibility to the people, culture and future of Scotland, and the uni's core mission as a charity. And trashing the careers of many gifted and committed academics. They should be held accountable. @ucuedinburgh.bsky.social

Day 11 of the UCU workers' strike at the University of Edinburgh, over deteriorating conditions for staff and a resulting deterioration of educational conditions for students. All of this, while senior management awards itself with ever bigger pay increases. This is a scandal.
