i hope whoever first decided to turn thumbsticks into clickable buttons experiences crippling levels of guilt and shame for the suffering they have wrought upon the world, along with every single designer who ever thought binding them to sprint was a good idea may no one show you compassion or pity

looks like the rest of the world is pointing the way for america, which is nice i dunno if anyone's noticed, but we tend to get lost pretty easily

i'm currently watching a very old, pre-internet group fall apart due to an invasion of AI slop and the resulting attempts to push back on it erupting into the standard moderation "debate" anyone in an online community has seen before you shouldn't need specifics to understand what i'm saying here

Jensen Huang and his stupid little jackets can fuck all the way off

Jensen Huang of Nvidia, $NVDA, has said relentless negativity around AI is hurting society and has done a lot of damage, per Techspot.

remember when full motion video was the next big thing that'd speed up production, lower costs, allow for more expansive storytelling, and would lead to the inevitable future of games becoming interactive movies? there was no stopping it, so get on board or die? LLMs are the FMV of modern game dev

the first five TTRPGs i played: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) i grew up in the deep south during the '80s satanic panic, with friends who either had religious parents or were too "cool" for TTRPGs i didn't need friends for CRPGs, though... 1) Ultima II 2) The Bard's Tale 3) Ultima IV 4) Battletech 5) Ultima VI

1. Basic D&D, supplemented by White Box supplementary kipple 2. AD&D (original, as it came out) 3. Metamorphosis Alpha 4. Traveller (original) 5. There is no 5.

the coolest thing about LLMs is how quickly they created an army of AI experts out of people who'd never worked in tech or had even heard of machine learning before, all in less time than it takes a kid to get through middle school

the wild thing about game developers/publishers and movie studios proudly pushing LLM adoption is, like...what if it actually worked? if LLMs really will "only keep getting better," then why would anyone need to buy games or movies anymore? Chatbot! Make me a Fortnite. Chatbot! Make me a Star War.

my doomsday theory is that there's no greater threat to power than the rising intelligence of the subjugated, and getting people to offload cognition to LLMs is a great way of keeping that from happening

i guess one nice thing about being an old gamer right now is that i got to witness the birth and death of the AAA video game industry in my lifetime

wild how we rebuilt the entire world around reliable software, then decided to burn it all down by replacing institutional knowledge and experience with vibe coded slop that spreads to every corner of the world and starts breaking everything until each button you click is a roll of enshittified dice

before you vote, remember that billionaires only make up about .0003% of america's population, but we've elected our way into shaping the entire country around their whims i dunno, i kinda feel like maybe that's not a very good arrangement for the 99.9997% of the rest of us but whatever, you do you

you should never go to a government website created by the national design studio unless you absolutely have to, and if you absolutely have to, you should never enter any personal info, but if you absolutely must enter personal info, do it with a secure browser on a clean pc or virtual machine kbye

chatbots have been around less than half a decade, and they’ve already cooked y’all’s brains. the next however many years we have left aren’t looking too good the future ain’t what it used to be

the more you rely on chatbots, the less you rely on your own mind, on developing and maintaining your own skills, on understanding the interplay of systems and subsystems, etc. incidentally, the word "demented" comes from the latin "dementare" (de mente: away from mind | de: away from, mente: mind)

y’all do realize that major publishers are encouraging ai decomps as a way of getting to full cloud/SaaS everything, right? the complete theft of any and all IP is enabled by local ownership of the files. cloud “solves” that i mean, you do know where this road leads, don’t you? you will own nothing

salt must always sit to the left of pepper the correct order is sock-sock, then shoe-shoe while cutting meat with kitchen shears is practical and highly efficient, it must never be done leaving unused time on the microwave is a crime the save icon must be clicked multiple times, just to be sure

just watched something on Amazon go from deliverable by Friday before i put it in my cart, to Saturday right after i put it in my cart, and then immediately to Sunday when i completed the order it's a christmas present, so i don't really care when it gets here but come on

what people don't seem to understand about abuses of power is that the powerful see the ability to abuse their power as the true and only purpose of that power, while any acts committed in the preservation and expansion of that power are right and just and required because power is all they value

there are 48 episodes of Twin Peaks and one movie, so if you start watching two episodes per day on the 7th, you'll finish everything on Halloween but is Twin Peaks a spooky season show? i dunno, i'm not an authority on appropriate series, but it's a comfort show in any season make your own rules

i dunno, i just kinda feel like establishment democrats could at least try being a little more courageous and a little less “strategic” once in a while strategy is simply a means of burying inaction in overcomplification, then hiding behind big brain excuses sometimes you just gotta be brave, man
