Something I love about original production drawings is how often you can see eraser marks. If even the best artists don’t get it exactly right on the first try, then I don’t have to, either.

Getting visits from these lil ones is a highlight of my day. I have learned so much about raccoons and their behavior over the past few months, they’re the coolest of the critters.

Glint is a little LED toy you tilt and shake, and this was my first SMD session. They worked! Only to be murdered at a later date. I plugged the battery in backwards and killed the FET, twice. The fix was a black sharpie mark on the ground side of the board, to match the black wire. #esp32 #ai

The bug collector - well, at least she likes looking at bugs and drawing bugs, but isn't too keen on actually catching any - so she just waves her net around in the air in case anyone's watching.... #automata #thebugcollector #woodenart

Third time's the charm! No stencil this time. I squeezed paste on each pad, put it on the hot plate, then ended up re-touching most joints with the iron during the testing process. Ain't pretty, but it sure is fun. #electronics

I had a fun idea recently after watching witch hat atelier of a pencil that could blow bubbles, just to make art a little more fun. Here is my prototype #maker #art #whimsy

Slapped together a "stop backing up" sensor for my partner, using an esp32, an old ultrasonic sensor, and spare neopixel strip. Anything within a certain distance of the sensor makes the rainbow light party. #esp32

Thought my old computer had a bad power supply, so I replaced the PSU. My first time swapping one. Turned out the older machine just didn't like all of its cores getting slammed.for species id.....oops.

Putting the backyard code on GitHub meant taking my own name out of it first, and my first attempt at that looked like it had worked and hadn't. Force-pushing a rewritten history does not clear the refs GitHub keeps from old pull requests.

Stan has been bringing her kids around almost every day! So far we've named Peaches, and Poe (short for poe-tay-toe). Still haven't quite worked out what the last of the triplets should be named. #raccoons

For a stretch there, every card I pulled off the trail camera came back full of the barbecue. The classifier had a species picked out for it too: brown rat. You can read the Weber logo on the lid of the crops it saved. #computervision

unclemattmakes.comThe barbecue kept getting filed as a ratOn one card, half of what the trail camera caught was furniture. The automatic filter finds some of it by watching what never moves, and I draw boxes around the rest by hand.

Meet The Dude. I put my hand on the glass and so did he! Then he curled up at the door and laid down. I think it's safe to say I found my spirit animal...or he found me...something like that. Either way, snacks are involved.

Spent months trying to get software to tell my raccoons apart. Tail, face mask, the way they walk, body size, what time they turn up. Then I looked up how actual biologists do it, and the answer is they clip fur off the tail. I think I'll leave that to the pro's. #wildlife

unclemattmakes.comBiologists do this by clipping tail furWe spent months looking for something on a raccoon that would hold still enough to identify it by. The tail, the mask, the walk, the size, the hour it shows up. Then I looked up how the professionals do it.

my 2nd attempt at assembly for my glint revE board, so i thought i'd do a lil stop-motion experiment using one shot per assembly step for the glint board. kinda sorta works, but i should really do per-part next time... #animation #stopmotion

Hi all! I wanted to share a piece I made from recycled 3D printing filament that I couldn’t use, I hope you all like it and are having a lovely day! #recycled #reused #artist #art #3DPrinting

I’ve been going to #PAX on and off since the start in Bellevue. I love going, but holy crap there’s just too many people to enjoy the booths and get a good look at games, let alone try and play them. That said, it’s great to see so many of us nerds, geeking out over everything. End of old man rant

A bare LED panel showing a picture still reads as bright dots arranged like a picture. The fix was a 3D printed grid, walls around every LED so none of them bleed into each other, with a white layer over the top. No code in it at all, purely an optical trick. #electronics

unclemattmakes.comThey look like pixels, not like LEDsSixty-four LEDs in a grid still look like sixty-four LEDs. What fixed it was a 3D printed grid with a wall around every light, and there is no code in it anywhere.

I wanted to warm a dead vape on the hot plate to soften the glue and get it open. Claude pointed out that would hold a lithium cell straight through the temperature where it catches fire on its own. So I opened it by hand, and found a screw hiding under the foam pad. #maker

unclemattmakes.comAdventures in disassemblyI had a pile of dead vapes, a hot air station I barely knew how to use, and no components yet. One of them came apart into a practice board, a screw I did not see, and a microphone I probably killed.

The commit history on this one goes: one commit, nothing, nothing, then three dozen in an afternoon. Built around a job and a long stretch of being sick, so I picked tools that could survive me vanishing for two weeks. #gamedev
