The main issue is lack of research. How can you have “evidenced based” diagnosis and treatment when the evidence base is lacking as the research was never done? Also missing is inquiry & curiosity when locked into 15 min visits & insurance dictated constraints.
1 in 10 women suffer from chronic gynecological pain, like endometriosis and vulvodynia, yet many are told their pain is 'all in their head.' Medical #gaslighting is real, and lack of research is making it worse. theconversation.com/when-doctors...

The GOP Megabill: Largest Retraction of health insurance coverage in U.S. history U.S. has been EXPANDING health coverage for decades, but HR1 is largest RETRACTION ever The rise in uninsured will erase nearly all (84%) of decline in uninsured under ACA timothymcbride.substack.com/p/big-bill-l...
Most likely, yes, we will habituate. Unfortunately, very few people are willing to make the personal sacrifices and take risks needed to protect and defend democracy. Most people want stability and safety. MLK wrote about this, the “moderate” who is the barrier to justice.
Sunday morning 📰 @science.org The recent attack on #science in 🇺🇸 is not only undermining knowledge; it is also undermining #democracy… www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... www.science.org/doi/epdf/10....

Both/and. Menopause is only taught to 1 in 5 ob/gyn and not at all to most doctors. Perimenopause is something you end up learning about from social media, not your doctor (who education lacked that topic). If "advanced maternal age" is 35 due to ovarian aging: perimenopause can start in 30s.
I'd say that -isms and -phobias are real overall. Medicine exists within society that is rife with things like sexism or misogyny. To be honest, in my experiences as a patient, as a doctor, as a caregiver, medicine and nursing are both affected by this issue.
Medical misogyny is real – FemTech is the response women deserve Fed up with not being taken seriously at the doctor’s? You’re not alone. But at long last, change is underway By Charlotte Colley @yorkshirebylines.co.uk

Today marks five years since George Floyd was killed by police. Our June 22, 2020 cover “Say Their Names,” by Kadir Nelson, illustrated how Floyd’s murder embodies the history of violence inflicted upon Black people in America. nyer.cm/UmfefJw

Conditions that only affect women, or affect them very differently, have been systematically ignored or dismissed for most of medical history. Thankfully, that is changing, to the benefit of everyone.

Tons of misinformation flying about. Twitter is worse than useless. I have not found even one reliable source. Does not help that POTUS is tweeting about brokering a ceasefire then the official Indian account says ~ “no you didn’t”
THREAD: As India launches strikes against Pakistan tonight, misinformation is rapidly spreading online. I'll fact-check viral falsehoods in this thread. This video, viewed over 660,000 times, shows Israeli air strikes on Gaza in October 2023. It's unrelated to Indian strikes tonight.

Your daily reminder that the U.S. Postal SERVICE is a service that is designed to benefit taxpayers and not a business that should be expected to turn a profit.
NEW: The U.S. Postal Service posted a net loss of $3.3 billion in this fiscal year’s second quarter mainly due to “significant challenges out of our control,” including workers’ compensation costs, Luke Grossmann, USPS chief financial officer, said at the open session of the governing board meeting
So, per the act-like-an-editor AI agents I’ve been using, my first chapter was too long So spent this week restructuring my book to split that chapter, reframe, and make it align again I think it is better for that work, but, wow, dismantling/reassembling your writing is not fun, is fairly arduous
Been making great progress on my book. Was planning to aim to publish via @mitpress.bsky.social like these books… …but it will extend my time to being sold. Alternatives are Big 5, indie, or self publish. #writer #book #publishing Any tips? Any good agent suggestions?
Most of these algorithms are deeply flawed and are being used well beyond what is reasonable
2/ The algorithm, called TIGER, focuses on immutable factors from a prisoner’s past — work history, age at first arrest, prior drug convictions — to assess risk of reoffending. Yet it fails to take into account anything a prisoner has done to rehabilitate themselves.
