Learned about @opensourcesanjose.org via the Meetup group shutdown message. Haven't been active in the OSM group yet but still hoping to start.

Open Source San José@opensourcesanjose.org

The Bay Area OpenStreetMappers group on #Meetup is shutting down at the end of the month. Rest assured, we’ll keep holding our #SouthBayMapNight every other week, and you’ll keep hearing about it right here. Here’s the backstory: community.openstreetmap.org/t/meet-the-p...

community.openstreetmap.orgMeet the people who put San José on the mapThe Bay Area OpenStreetMappers group will leave Meetup by the end of this month. This was one of the oldest real-world OSM meetups, going all the way back to November 2008, with mapping parties in Oak...

Appreciating the work that @berkeleyearth.org does while reading: berkeleyearth.org/september-20... "September 2026 was nominally the 2nd warmest September on record, with a global average of 1.65 ± 0.11 °C (2.96 ± 0.19 °F) above the 1850–1900 average, behind only September 2023."

Looks like Bluesky gets the snippet text from the meta description tag (?), which is why the above currently mentions August: `<meta name="description" content="August 2026 was...` Or maybe it's the `<meta property="og:description" content="August 2026 was...`?

More details on how the PHP exploits were discovered.

James Ball@jamesrball.com

Here's the post from the researchers who uncovered the vulnerability (who are security researchers doing their job, and who have disclosed this mess about as well as you can do – they're not the bad guys here).

"[M]ore than 99% of the nearly 1.2 million comments, letters, and signatures submitted on the Trump administration’s proposal to repeal the Roadless Rule opposed it."

Ross Macfarlane@rossmacfarlane.bsky.social

Public comments overwhelmingly opposed the Trump Admin proposal to repeal the Roadless Rule. Not surprisingly, logging, mining, ranching, and motorized recreation groups were on the other side. morethanjustparks.substack.com/p/we-examine...

Was reminded of Hedgerow Farms by an article about another farm raising mass quantities of California native plant seed -- Heritage Growers, apparently near Colusa: today.csuchico.edu/mason-shorts/. (Winters and Colusa are a little over 50 miles apart driving.)

TODAY is your LAST CHANCE to speak up to protect the Roadless Rule. The public comment period closes TODAY, Oct. 6. This is just a small glimpse of who these roadless wild areas protect — from colorful candy darters to mighty grizzly bears. These species all deserve a safe place to call home.

Happy Stanislav Petrov day! He saved the world from nuclear annihilation on this day in 1983. My freshman year in college would have been so much worse without his courage.🧵

I drank a toast to Stanislav Petrov.
