So I’ve been working on a side project for a bit that’s shaping up pretty cool and has been fun to build It’s basically a database of movies, shows, books, and games all in one place with an emphasis on creators and finding their work across mediums. FollowTheCredits.com

followthecredits.comFollow The Credits — Follow creators across movies, TV, books & gamesFollow The Credits — follow the credits across movies, TV shows, books, and games, organised around the people who made them.

No ads and no tracking, I actually use my own open source analytics API I built which collects no personal info, and the site’s analytics are public. I’m monetizing it using unobtrusive affiliate links, so if someone clicks it and buys on amazon I get a small commission at no cost to users.

The biggest flaw so far with it is the movie data, all the good movie data sources are expensive and I have literally no money, so I’m using WikiData since it’s free use but it’s very very messy. I’m still working on fixing it, but the movies section is definitely rough and missing a lot of data

So I built an RSS Reader app because I wanted something simple. Built for iOS / iPadOS and macOS (coming soon, had to make a minor fix) native Swift + SwiftUI with iCloud sync, notifications, $2, no ads, no subscription, no tracking apps.apple.com/us/app/swift... #ios #rss #iosdev #indiedev

Just launched version 1.2 of my app Cutting Board for iOS I added recipe importing, so now users can copy and paste a recipe from a website into the app and save it, plus a link to where you found it, and even add all ingredients to your shopping list in one tap #food #cooking #iosdev #indiedev

I finally released my first iOS app on the App Store I made it so I could have recipes, shopping lists, and keep track of what I have on hand in one place No subscription or ads, and currently it’s on sale for $2. #cooking #iOS #indiedev #swift #apple #recipes

Decided to get back into iOS app development and I’m pretty close to finished with this app I’m combining a recipe book with shopping lists and “what’s in the pantry” management to keep track of what’s on hand Will also have a community sharing feature and a “cooking mode” #iosdev #swiftlang

Now I’ve added Docker containerization 🐳

I just made a simple little tool for GameDevs, I wanted to learn some back-end python and SQL, and thought I would make a simple little tool for keeping track of gamedev assets and licenses (I was just using a text doc before…) #gamedev github.com/DustinOlsen/...

It’s super simple and I’m just trying it out. Needs a SQL database to be configured but in the future I’ll see if I can make something that can just run and work. My personal plan with it is to run it on my server in a Docker container But if this seems useful for you, feel free to use it!

I decided to start learning some back-end development for the sake of finding a job and decided to make a little project to help with gamedev asset management. Stuff like licenses, categorizing by type, links to their sources, etc. Using FastAPI and it definitely lives up to its name

Nothing much new to show, but as an amateur dev this scene transition was kind of an accomplishment! Only took the morning, and I'm feeling ambitious still. What do I add next? Honest question, as I value feedback. #gamedev #IndieGame #IndieDev #PixelArt #RetroGaming #GODOT #Horror #spooky

Hey Godot devs, are there any plugins in particular that you’d recommend for a solo dev making a 2D game? I haven’t used any plugins so far and I was thinking that it might be a good idea to explore them and see if there’s anything that would greatly save my sanity #godot #gamedev

Working on making my NPC behavior more interesting by giving them vision with raycasts so they will need to see the player, not simply be psychic and know where the player is at all times #godot #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #indiegames

Today I’m working on trying to make the enemy behavior in my game more interesting I’m thinking I’m going to implement a sort of “last known position” and investigation system when enemies lose sight of the player, which will let you flank them or escape fights #gamedev #indiedev #godot

Overnight I managed to get my most views so far on a YouTube short for my gamedev channel ☺️ I’m going to continue to post short clips of my game as I develop it, and later on I want to make longer devlogs and demonstrations www.youtube.com/@V01DWORKS #gamedev #indiedev #solodev #godot

I feel like solo game development is weirdly the only thing I’ve worked on where balancing so many different “roles” actually feels good to me When I hit a wall with doing programming, I can switch to level design or art. When I have no creative energy, I switch to the business side of it

This feels like it should burn me out quicker but it almost has the opposite effect for me where I can keep forward momentum when I would otherwise just stare at the screen wondering what to do next, even though there’s no shortage of things to do

I’m hand-drawing a lot of my game assets and found out that procreate can export video timelapses which is pretty cool. I’m not that good at digital art yet but it’s very fun So this is my process making a simple little 2D ammo box in Procreate which I’ll export into Godot #gamedev #indiedev

lol I’m curious if anyone has put Linux / SteamOS on an Xbox ally yet Although, it looks like it’s basically the ROG Ally but with Xbox branding?

Wanted to give a shoutout to Doc because I was just reading through this yesterday and it was a great article that genuinely gave me a lot of ideas for how to differentiate enemy types in my game that I’ve already started to work on implementing #indiedev #gamedev #godot

GUESS WHO'S BACK BACK AGAIN DOC'S BACK TELL A FRIEND That's right. It's time for part 3 of the FPS series; this time, a lot of assorted thoughts on what makes for good enemy design. This one was fun as hell to write. docseuss.medium.com/building-a-b...

Working on re-making how my game’s animations work for guns to make them more interesting and allow for a more complex weapons system while my girlfriend’s cat keeps me company #gamedev #Godot #cats

Since I have a lot of time on my hands while I wait for news from job hunting, I'm going to focus a bit more on gamedev. Most recently, I've been working on improving the projectiles, making them more visible, and fixing collision so they don't fly through the walls #godot #gamedev

I wasn’t able to take my gaming PC with me on the first trip when I moved, so I’ve had to use only my Steam Deck Decided to use an external SSD plugged into the dock so I can just store games I’m not actively playing and it’s working pretty nicely

I can never decide if learning Serbian feels easier or harder after learning Russian On one hand I kind of already understand the grammar and a lot of words are similar, I already know numbers, and I can already read Cyrillic, so learning the letters that are unique to Serbian was fairly easy

But it feels like I hit a wall where it’s harder now and I sometimes mix Serbian words up with Russian, sometimes without realizing it and sometimes they have very very different meanings I also have a habit of pronouncing things like Russian by accident so my accent is probably all over the place

Finished round one of interviewing with a company and it went well Was rejected for the role I applied for that I honestly was under-qualified for anyways, but moved forward for a different one and now I wait I’m both so exhausted and so full of nervous energy at the same time lol

So I haven’t posted on here in a while, but recently made the move to Belgrade and am still getting settled in with everything. Got an apartment but now working on sorting out a job+residency things

Started playing the Oblivion remaster and after getting out of the sewers I wander and walk into the first inn I see Like 7 NPCs are all having different conversations at the same time, talking over each other Then suddenly a fight breaks out and they keep talking while fighting It’s perfect 🥹

At the time I was playing around with Raspberry Pi’s a lot and trying to find some sort of hacky solutions to get certain Apple features onto my servers and Linux PC I still would love to be able to AirDrop directly to my NAS 🥲 that would be so cool

I'm going to do my monthly-ish ask of people to wishlist my game. I believe I will make something great and worth your time. I really want to be able to make this work, because covid degraded my social skills to the point that I can't work in an office any more +health problems. #indiegamedev
