"Many in western publics [...] have become consumers of politics and treat it like a streaming subscription or a delivery app: they expect results, immediately, on demand. [...] Those politicians who unreservedly engage with the voter as a consumer [...] are the ones who prevail."

"What is being envisioned [with Europe's push for Industrial AI] is just more dependency, moved down a level from the cloud into the factory. Vassalage with a bow on top."

Cristina Caffarra@cristinacaffarra.bsky.social

Frontier lab money is being showered theough proxy funds all over Europe to create new think tanks with young researchers carrying exhalted titles and self styling as “AI experts”, pushing this ridiculous “Middle Powers” narrative. This is in fact just vassalage with better branding. No, just no.

"AI is by its nature an imperial technology. [It] has an inherent center-periphery structure. Control of frontier AI and its rewards are concentrated in a handful of firms in China and the United States. Everyone else is a dependent user."

you can't be serious. This reads Meta/Facebook/Insta is looking to grant itself the rights to scrape websites across the open web - and train Meta's AI - if a company after Oct 30, 2026 uses Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or other Meta services. So every biz. Read that again. Outrageous. 1/5

Moderation is at the moment in the hands of Bluesky even if you are on another AT protocol like @eurosky.social or @leafplaza.eu or use @mu.social. That is not an argument against migration, but the contrary: we should strengthen them so they can reach the scale to manage their own moderation.

Andy Scollick@andyscollick.bsky.social

I have doubts about where Bluesky is heading with the increasing use of AI, especially in moderation systems. And such corporate heavy-handedness is not acceptable. "Corporate power tends to corrupt, and absolute corporate power corrupts absolutely" to misquote Lord Acton. It's a great pity.

Today an account (on the Bluesky ATP) by a non-anonymous person that I follow and respect was suspended. I hope he can appeal and get it back. But there is a caveat: moderation is on ATP level and suspensions affect all using that ATP. So an account on another ATP can still be suspended by Bluesky

The Mayor of Moncalieri just blocked a huge data center project due to incomplete documentation. A group of activists and local politicians painstakingly went through the application (submitted on 17/09) and highlighted impact problems, discrepancies, omissions and unfounded assertions. It worked.
