Julia is a fantastic language to solve partial differential equations in. Part of my role is helping scientists making he most out of its particular combination of performance, closeness to mathematics, and the ability to target GPUs and HPC.

I'm certainly a #julialang evangalist, but I've toned it down a bit - a lot of scientists don't have the time or inclination to go against the grain. Then again, when someone makes it this easy... #tidytuesday#rstatsnrennie.rbind.io/blog/introdu...

@gabrielweymouth.bsky.social and I review our CFD solver's design, performance, accuracy, and also show some very cool examples (like the one below). Check it out!

The fun part of hardware becoming more capable over time is that it can unveil sleeping bugs...
I just fixed a 6 year old bug. A synchronization primitive was missing a fence, nobody noticed until the hardware became more advanced, and the missing semantics actually became important.
☕️ We’re running LATTE again: our ASPLOS workshop about languages/compilers/tools/whatever for hardware design.
Submissions are just little 2-pagers, due on January 31. Plenty of time to throw something together! capra.cs.cornell.edu/latte25/
We're hiring for the Julia Runtime and Compiler team. If you know someone who's strong in systems or compilers, please send them our way. It's a very fun piece of tech to work on and you get to support important scientific applications. juliahub.com/company/jobs...
We are pleased to invite engineering researchers, industry professionals, and educators to submit their latest work to the “Engineering with Julia” minisymposium, which will be held as part of JuliaCon 2025.

I just gave a talk at @pydata.bsky.social on automatic differentiation, how it works, and how the Python and Julia ecosystems differ in this regard.
You can find the slides here, and there will be a recording someday!
