Abdul El-Sayed: "Weijia, with all due respect, this is the third time you've asked about a Twitch streamer ... their whole game is to make us fight culture wars so that we don't pay attention to the fact the president has made $2.2 billion ... "

If you care about profligate use of fresh water, your top villain should be ... agriculture. If you care about conversion of pristine land to industrial use, your top villain should be ... agriculture. If you care about corrupt corporate subsidies, your top villain should be ... agriculture.

erosion of trust from the top down leads to insane things like this. talk about a "low trust culture", but not for the reasons you usually hear from people who love that phrase...

there is no such thing as "age verification." All "age verification" is actually "identity verification." You can coat it in glitter and "privacy-preserving" wrapping paper. But in the end, mandating age verification means mandating surveillance be built into software and hardware. Period.

wild to listen to people like dinesh d'souza create excuses for what he admits are actual lies from trump. he says the media lies to us, so it is perfectly fine for trump to lie to us.

These are the actions of an authoritarian state. Instead of investigating the agent who killed Alex Pretti, Trump's DHS conducted sweeping surveillance of Minnesota organizations that were peacefully standing up to this Administration's lawlessness. Despicable.

finished The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett the other day, and moved onto the second book of the series. really really good. classic murder mystery in a cool fantasy world. i've never been super into fantasy books, but been reading a bit more. read Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy recently

after a looong stint of sci-fi (The Expanse/Dune/Prefect Dreyfus Emergency). kind of eye opening how much more i enjoy "magic" when it is grounded in something. #booksky

I think (hope, maybe) we will start to see authenticity valued at a premium as we move into the era of AI-generated everything. Mass media will embrace this completely, but outside some exceptions I don't think most people consider advertising a proper creative outlet.

Our media, stories and music have told our stories since before history. Even fully sentient AI could not replicate the process of encoding human experiences into art.

The techniques of the media aside, that is what is behind really moving works: the authentic process of the creator's experiences filtered through their craft and into an expression of themselves.

hey #godot #gamedev ppl, how do you do video devlogs? are you just streaming, and clipping? or do you record your work offline and then go back and edit it for a video? or do you just show off results after the fact and talk about them? kinda want to do devlogs but not streaming

learning godot. trying out a project in 3d. i really like godot's workflow. its been a while since i've worked in 3d though. i think this project will be fun... hoping i stick with it...

lol this is wild

An additional layer to this: If you are in the UK like me and don't/can't use a VPN (unlike me) you have to verify your age/identity to even interact with affected accounts' posts now. All of them. Perfect shit circle.

just had to fight w/ opencode for a bit because something in mcp-auth.json got corrupted, or unaligned w/ my current mcp config, and this was causing opencode mcp list to report a syntax error in the config... p annoying

finally embracing the ralph loop. this is actually pretty nice. most of my LLM usage recently has been letting it run and just babysitting it and approving commands as it follows a detailed spec. now i'm using docker sandboxes and letting agents run with bypass permissions enabled without worry.

Google Play reviews are so shit, what is even the point? i checked the reviews and they didn't even show me any negative ones until i left my own bad review.

oh and the dev can just delete my bad review? dev commented back offering a coupon, i went to reply and decline since i already have zero trust, but now my review is gone.

Wild how many of my non-technical former coworkers all of a sudden are agentic engineering experts! What a come up for them.

Was a bit of a slog but I got my self-hosted email setup running. I managed to over-complicate it a bit in ways that made the initial setup more difficult than it should have been. But it seems to be working fine now. One more step towards de-Googling!!

doing some de-googling and improving my privacy stance, and part of that is going to include hosting my own email server again. its been a long time since i last managed email, but i'll give it a shot.

i switched over to cloudflare pages from github pages and its pretty nice. i actually haven't used cloudflare before. but along with having basic metrics, having functions available is quite nice, especially having used azure static web apps a lot with a previous client. feels familiar.

@natalie.sh i added bsky (and mastodon) comments to my blog after being inspired by your implementation a while ago. works great, just wanted to say thanks for a good idea :)

set up bluesky and mastodon powered comments for my blog as part of my new site redesign. maybe one day i will actually get a comment...

lol

p75 and p90 JavaScript bytes on the web have exploded since May, 2025β€”easily the largest 10 month period based on HTTP Archive data since 2023. The long-tail is getting worse, very quickly. Gemini, what happened in May 2025?
