Looking at the, uh, 'previews' of the Ork codex and sadly the 'Careen' stratagem seems to have gone. A shame - I think in 10 games I only got the chance to actually use it once or twice, but when it did go off it was a lot of fun. #warhammercommunity #40k

I've rejigged and expanded the Blood Angels painting tutorial thread I did a while ago into an article: victorypointless.com/2026/08/09/c.... Now includes more discussion of the colour and stylistic choices behind the scheme and roasting of other space marine chapters. #nerdlings #paintingwarhammer

Between takes on set Peter Cushing painted wargaming figures. He'd invite female costars to join him if they were new, looked lonely or being perved on by others on set. "Scream Queen" Ingrid Pitt proudly showed me the little figures they painted together once. Kept them all her life #nerdlings

we need new, non-Stancilian discourse someone with a large follower count say "hear me out" about a deranged public figure or fictional character or something be a hero you can save us

Some test models for a Genestealer Cults scheme, intended to mesh with my existing Tyranid scheme. I'm considering going for more of a blue-green denim effect on their trousers. You know, make their jeans tealer. #nerdlings #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer

Death Company marines. Just painting assault intercessors black seemed dull to me, so I added chains and Stormcast helms for added 'Man in the Iron Mask' vibes. #nerdlings #warhammer40k #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer #bloodangels

I realised that I forgot to post the full squad of these guys when they were done. Here they are! #nerdlings #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer #bloodangels

This marine is now done! He isn't going to win Golden Demon, but personally I'm happy with how he looks given the relatively small amount of time invested. I can easily bash out a squad to this standard in 2-3 evenings and not get bored doing it. #nerdlings #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer

Anyway, back to Blood Angels. I'm using purple as a shadow colour because it will make the red 'pop' and look a lot brighter and more saturated than if we went straight from black to red. #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer #nerdlings #colourtheory

For the same reasons, the black bits I basecoat with a very dark purple. It's a bit hard to recommend a colour match since this is Leviathan Purple, but a pot I accidentally left open for a few hours, so it dried out and ended a bit darker than usual. Probably just using Corvus Black is fine too.

So we've now got a nice gradient lighting effect that we'll use as our base for most of the model for basically zero effort, we're going to shade and highlight this a bit more and do details. #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer #nerdlings

I use a similar 'cheat' for most of my armies with different colour combinations, for example my Tyranids use Red-Purple-Cyan and my Orks use Purple-Red-Yellow. Even if you don't use these colours directly you can use it to suggest mood and lighting conditions. #paintingwarhammer #nerdlings

I'm very lazy and want to get the priming step to do as much work for me as possible. So we're going to do a multi-step coloured zenithal prime. We'll start by spraying black (any black will do - I'm using Army Painter matt black) from below. #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer #nerdlings

Next we'll spray a dark purple (Colour Forge Imperial Purple, in this case) from just above the horizontal - say 10° up. Don't go too heavy and leave some black showing in the recesses. #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer #nerdlings

Step 1 is to build them. I don't hate Primaris but there are some aspects I don't like (the helmets, the weird kneepad rim, the lack of back banners). I've done some mild conversion work to 'fix' these but this is optional. #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer #nerdlings

Step 2: It's Prime time! I like to prime on what my partner calls 'goblin sticks' - dowels with blue-tack on the ends jammed through a cardboard box. It lets me rotate each model individually while keeping my hand (mostly) paint-free. #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer #nerdlings

Good news for Death Guard players who really want to commit to the bit.

The new thallax with a few of my other admech "heavy infantry"-types, the skitarii praetorians and a UR-025 Quite often I make things that don't fit neatly into official army units, but my admech is primarily just a collection of mechanical minis I like

I've seen a few people posting skeletons today and I'm not sure if there's a reason behind it or if it's pure coincidence, but I'm going to leap wildly onto this bandwagon that may or may not exist. #nerdlings #paintingwarhammer #warhammercommunity

Hobby experiment: Using tape, thinner masking tape and yellow spray paint to make small-scale hazard stripes. Results: Meh. It sort-of works, but I'm not sure it's that much quicker, easier or better looking than just freehanding it. #nerdlings #paintingwarhammer #minipainting #warhammercommunity

I haven't really kept track, but I think my models-painted tally for 2025 goes something like this: Orks: 144 Tyranids: 26 Necrons: 33 Blood Angels: 23 AdMech: 2 Terrain: 22 Misc: 2 Total: 252 (ish) #nerdlings #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer

I've been painting some ooky spooky vampire space marines. Because I'm an old man who hates change I have de-primarisified them as much as reasonably possible. #nerdlings #warhammercommunity #paintingwarhammer #bloodangels #givememk7helmetsorgivemedeath
