Games Complete 2028 #28 Sniper Elite III Not really touched the DLC yet but it appears to be more of the same. It sets the fundamentals for the series moving forward and there’s nothing of the scope of 4 and 5, but man there’s some decent levels here; Fort Rifugio and Siwa are clear standouts.

Games Complete 2026 #27 Star Wars Outlaws I’ve spent over a hundred hours with this since release, but only just done the story mode, effectively playing the game over twice and second time round has been infinitely more fun. I don’t know if that’s a result of the tweaks or measured expectations.

Also, I’m paying less. Feels like a lot of Sky’s business hinges on people being lazy and sticking with what they know. £47 a month for shitty download speeds ain’t it.

Went back to Doom Eternal, specifically The Ancient Gods and despite some initial re-acclimatisation issues, I’m enjoying it again. But its become apparent that I’m nowhere near the absolute Death Machine I used to be when the game launched and that saddens me. Now having to play on Hurt Me Plenty.

While we’re all here, let me stress again that Eternal is the absolute apex predator of modern Doom. 2016 was the practice run and is not without its charms, but the sequel is so maximalist in every way, shape and form. It demands much, but the reward is you BECOME the Slayer, not feel like him.

Apparently my physical copy of Doom Dark Ages arrives today, and boy howdy was it ever a pain in the arse to get. So much so that I had to order from Game, which meant: Postage cost a fiver. The game was 20 quid, 7 pounds more expensive than the cheapest alternative (Argos) I ordered on the 17th

I keep saying it, but Xbox isn't going to get any better at selling games if they can't supply them. I'd be fascinated to know the print runs of their heaviest hitters in the last few years, because they anecdotally always seem low.

So I’ve gone back to Afrika, despite my best efforts to maintain course with Mafia III. It’s a more primitive game than 4 or 5. Less open world and more corridored locations. It’s not without its magic and you can see the bones of what the series would become, but I am yearning for more open spaces.

We really should let Halo go, just like we let Killzone, Resistance, Medal of Honor, Jedi Knight, Duke and a bajillion other FPS’s go. It’s done its time and served its purpose. Please stop re-animating something that is sorely out of time and out of step.

Now I’ve finished Outlaws, including the DLC (fucking loved it) I’m turning my attention to another unloved open worlder, Mafia III. Something about the setting, culture and sim-handling for cars has always pleased me, plus its stealth mechanics and combat is brutal. Recent 60 fps update too.

Had to put Witcher III to one side. It looks all kinds of beautiful on the Pro, but the stability has dropped back to launch version levels. Not only that, there’s old bones under that rejuvenated visage, so the physics calcs cause stutters and it’s still all too willing to waste your time.

Games Complete 2026 #26 Silent Hill IMO, the most ambitious and technically challenging of all PSX games. Terrifying, but with such graphical economy. In essence, it’s the ingenious audio design doing the heavy lifting, but the rudimentary bones of SH2’s iconic looks and enemies are here too.

What I can tell you is this: it’s not a bad game. In fact, it’s so successful in its realisation of the OTSW universe and moreish that I’m willing to cut it some slack, even with the bugs As a wise man once said, we'd have to be talkin' about one charming motherfuckin' pig and I think we are. 7/10

Got my ‘modern’ consoles routed through the system. Interesting to see the digital license stuff cascading down quite neatly. Obviously the Series X stuff are off limits on the One X, but it’s all clearly marked and ‘membered.
