Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things. Here’s a blurb on what I mean:

The best way I can describe the goal of Big Top Indies is "the digital equivalent of an old-timey pizza/ramen shop with one item only and it's just one old woman who makes every order by hand and delivers it to you directly from her flame-resistant palms"

Instead of one item only though it's the brightest fruits of my labour from cutting through the deep forests of the internet and sailing the web in search of good stuff to play/watch/read/admire/etc.

Penny Larceny: Gig Economy Supervillain from @fictionfactorygames.com is worth every full-priced penny. A true work of art. I get more happy the more I play it.

I guess while I'm on here I might as well do some word vomit, and if it reaches even one of you I'll be content. Bluntly speaking, I started Big Top Indies because I want to be a reason (if not THE reason) a creative doesn't give up on their work before they get the Big Spotlight.

So yeah, Big Top Indies has been idle for a bit, but I'm not giving up on it. I've gotta build up the circus and that's gonna take a bit, but slowly overtime I believe it will turn into a magical and whimsical entity that little me wishes had existed a long damn time ago.

My unseriousness, my charm, my HUMANNESS. I've learned that people enjoy that. OTHER HUMANS enjoy that. I do have a background in writing, yes. But you cannot textbook your way into expressing yourself the way that makes you feel like the most you. I have learned that through trial and error.

Big Top Indies for me is not just "another media site." It is a home for all of the people whose messages I've seen and stories I've reached that deserve a bigger spotlight and source of support than reality has provided them. It's a space for people who've been othered to find actual COMMUNITY.

Some creatives have small networks. Tiny networks even. A lot of creatives don't have budget for marketing. And a lot of creatives I think would rather spend more time being creative than trying to go viral or put together key words for the algorithm to boost their works.

I like telling people about the media I find. the game i discovered that's now my whole personality. the film that made me cry until 2AM. the book that acts as a gateway into my newfound appreciation for reading. I love shouting about them. And I think I do a damn good job of it.
