How much *can* you carry by #CargoBike? It costs 140 times more to run a van than to run a cargo bike, which will only get worse as the price of diesel climbs. While a van will sometimes be necessary, a cargo bike can often do the job just as well. @cyclingelectric.bsky.social @walkridegm.org.uk

On Friday night nearly 1000 people on bikes rode west to the site of Ford's first incoming bike lane removals, Bloor just east of Islington. Strength in numbers. #criticalmass

Happy #WorldCarFreeDay AND #MakingActivePlaces! If you're at the conference in Manchester today, find someone in a red Walk Ride GM t-shirt and say hello 😊

This is brilliant as a simple way of thinking about where a place is at with cycling. Which category does your city/area sit in?

Cycling cities evolve through three stages: people must first dare to cycle (safe and reliable), then be able to cycle (quick and convenient), before they are invited to cycle (attractive and joyful). Spending the weekend exploring Budapest by bike, it's clear the city sits in the middle category.🧵

Make no mistake: there will be the usual vocal minority rallying against the improvements and they won’t hesitate to try to stir up a fuss to try to spook councillors into pulling the scheme.

CALL TO ACTION: Tameside Council has announced a new consultation for improvements to the A560 that include wider footpaths, resurfaced roads and footpaths, improved pedestrian crossings, safer junctions, better bus stops, and new separated cycle lanes.

The proposals mark a welcome change from the political situation of this scheme as little as two years ago – a positive change that is thanks in no small part to the hard work of Walk Ride Tameside group volunteers to help shift the dial in the borough.

It makes this a hugely important consultation and it’s our opportunity to give this improved Tameside ambition more momentum by speaking up in favour of the proposals.

Not one transport question at last week's GM Mayor's hustings. Nothing on the Bee Network, clean air, walking or cycling - despite transport being one of the biggest parts of the job. This is your chance to change that 🧵

Andy Burnham is about to become PM. What does that mean for active travel? New from Moving Up North: the inside account of how Burnham really operates. Ten years of hustings, hot seats, wins and climbdowns, from people who were in the room. A window into how he'll govern next.

It's been a joy to work with Tameside Council to document this brilliant school street scheme in Mossley. The important messages for these projects are always the ones shared by the children we speak to. Great to see the cross-party political support for these schemes, too!

Here's the situation. You're in a rush to catch a train at Oxford Road. You're already late and only have a minute or so to lock up. You push the bike into the stand and the lock fails - you can't seem to get the front lock into place. You miss the train. Seems familiar?

I was really pleased on cycling a route I've not taken in a couple of years to see that Stockport and Manchester Councils have removed all the restrictive gates and A-frames. Well done! Mersey Valley entrances today & 2025/2020
