Lend me your ear. Hand carved from a small block of oak years ago. (This is all just knives and chisels, then oiled up. No power tools or sanding or any of that. Something I tend to forget to mention, but which is very important to me for my woodwork to be honest.)

Hi kidlet! The last of three pics I got of a kidlet during the one visit today. I’ll be at work tomorrow so probably won’t see either, and it will be a nice day. Maybe Tuesday.

A large Coastal/Western whiptail lizard is in sketchy territory. That corner of the backyard is where one of the young roadrunners like to enter/exit from 😬 But it has the snack cues down. If I make an underhanded tossing motion, it comes running!! Yum, mealworms. #herps

I haven’t seen a contrail in weeks! Either nobody was flying or maybe there’s a slight increase in moisture in the upper atmosphere allowing the ice crystals to form temporarily.

A few hours later, another jet heading southeast. Contrail is persistent and not spreading. Not much upper atmosphere wind to spread the trail.

#BrownBirds #BirdOfTheDay 1- a visiting roadrunner is showing many shades of brown as it pauses after snacks 2- still mostly brown but showing iridescent green and blue 11:00 visit #birds

98.7% illuminated waxing gibbous phase #Moon tonight! So close to being the Full Hunter’s Moon. It’s bringing very high tides to San Diego, possible coastal flooding or beach erosion Sunday-Tuesday A little bit of crater detail along the bottom edge.

Did my civic duty! 🌊 🤞 P, A message from California Secretary of State on behalf of San Diego Registrar of Voters. Your ballot for the November 3, 2026, General Election was received and will be counted. Thank you for voting!

ID’d by 3 bird apps as a Ruby-crowned kinglet (no ruby crown seen). Poor little bird may have been chasing a bug and bonked into the underside of our metal patio cover. It chilled on the edge of a cloth patio umbrella for about 10 minutes before taking off up into the trees. Careful lil buddy! 🪶

Snacks were had by the two kidlets, which one is which? 🤷‍♂️ IDK This was about 11:30, I heard one of the kidlets clacking in the back corner of the yard a few minutes ago - now 1:25pm. The clacker has not come back for more snacks, yet. #birds roadrunners SoCal

My three supervisors this morning during volunteer gig at the local park. Momma and two kids scouting for chores that I need to do 😄 Mule deer family 🦌

I’m hoping this photo works better on a big screen, the #birds are a bit hard to see on a phone 🤷‍♂️ Pretty cool in person 😉 There are two kettles of Turkey vultures, the lower one is farther (23 TVs) . The upper one is a little closer (15 birds?). Seen in the San Pasqual valley today

Who’s a big floofy kidlet? Yes you are!! Today is sunny and not windy and almost 80°f - roadrunner weather 😁 After two days of no visits, somebirdys were hungry. Both kidlets came by around 11:30. We think this may be BT.

Actual rain at 2:30! Didn’t last long which was good because it was really coming down! Storm is moving east, should be sunny tomorrow. October is not a big rain month for us so it’s nice to get some. Last three days add up to .6 inches. San Diego north county wx

Somekitty is practicing for Caturday, has a selection of toys laid out for later. There is a ‘pickle’, a kick stick, and little hedgehog which is the favorite. #tortie

I heard today’s #BirdOfTheDay alt theme is #corvids. Here’s a very handsome Ca Scrub jay doing an over the shoulder glance and showing off those fancy eyebrows #birds

It’s #ThrowbackThursday Since the rain last night and this morning put a damper on roadrunner weather, no visits today. Here’s one from this May, and I’m guessing the roadrunners would rather be like this today warming in the sun. Maybe tomorrow. 🪶

Seen this morning while doing a little cleanup in the backyard, Seek (iNaturalist) suggests in the Pigmy Blue family. Matches photos of the Western pigmy-blue. Possibly the tiniest butterfly I’ve seen, barely the size of a thumbnail ! If Western pigmy-blue, smallest bfly in North America! #invertes

The first sign of Fall this year - the return of fog on the valley floor, albeit a meager showing this morning. And what’s that? A greening of the hillside below from the rain ten days ago! A few clouds are left from the light overnight rain. 🎉

A possible look into the afternoon routine of a kidlet. 12:20 just chillin, 12:30 still chillin, 12:50 so much chillin, 1:10 gazing off down the valley showing off some iridescence on the long tail feathers 💙💚 #birds roadrunner Backyard birds

Another beautiful #bobcat on #cameratrap at #CopperCreek. Her home will become a waste-rock dump, and the creek will be entirely blown out by open pits, if #mining moves forward in this area.
