Lesion network mapping (LNM) links symptoms to brain circuits, but isolating symptom-specific effects remains challenging. We introduce robust LNM, a unified framework to reveal reliable, symptom-specific networks. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898/2026.05.18.725812v2

Association cortex connected to the striatum (esp. prefrontal) is more chained (catenated) than parietal regions belonging to the DMN (e.g. angular gyrus) and context-association network (CAN), with FC to the hippocampus. Why? what's the processing difference? www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Much of subcortex had strong connectivity specifically to cortical chains. For example, a striatal seed produces connectivity to a single chain, not to a general cortical region. This was true across subcortical structures, suggesting that cortico-subcortical connectivity is organized by chain.

Function & cytoarchitecture don't overlap ... they're orthogonal. Prefrontal cortex is plastered with chains of functional patches previously mostly known from face processing. Why multi-modal parcellations are wrong ... and other insights hidden by group-averaging of fMRI data. great explainer👇🏻
I always assumed that brain function had to line up with cytoarchitectonics. It turns out I was wrong. Human cortex, especially PFC, is tiled by chains of functional patches that subdivide and interlink architectonic areas into parallel processing streams. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

Thrilled to announce our new paper in @natneuro.nature.com! We managed the impossible: precision functional mapping during #DBS, with 11.7h fMRI/patient. Selective DBS-induced deactivations in the SCAN, building on our recent @nature.com paper. nature.com/articles/s41... @ndosenbach.bsky.social

The highlight of my week was the publication of "Parkinson’s disease as a somato-cognitive action network disorder" in @nature.com. It's a great paper that shows how conceptual changes in fundamental neuroscience - the discovery of SCAN - can improve treatment 🧪 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

More excellent reporting by NPR's Jon Hamilton about a new brain network that explains symptoms of Parkinson's that have befuddled brain researchers for decades. Kudos to @jianxunren.bsky.social and Hesheng Liu for this groundbreaking research in the journal Nature! doi.org/10.1038/s415...

In case this important point gets overlooked: along with our Nature paper, we’ve publicly released two large and scarce datasets—PIPD and PIET. IMHO, these are the best open Parkinson's and Tremor datasets available to date. See threads (1/4) 👇 nature.com/articles/s41...

Good news for Parkinson's sufferers. These researchers should review recent papers on Essential Tremor. ET researchers have identified the back of the brain as the ET problem area, the same area identified as part of the Parkinson's problem. Potential for beneficial cooperation. (I have ET.)

Such a fascinating paper! Less than 3 years after the discovery of the new motor network (SCAN) interleaved between effector motor regions, SCAN is proving highly relevant for Parkinson’s! It offers potential to improve treatment and reduce symptoms non-invasively.

Why are gliomas overwhelmingly found in the action-mode network (AMN)? Could its function be contributing or is it that its function lines up with gene expression & receptor patterns? Either way, it raises the possibility of using inhibitory neuromod of the AMN to treat gliomas. #cancerneuroscience
